    摘要: A gate valve having a body made in two parts, namely a main part having flow passages and at least one body extension that accommodates movement of the gate between open and closed positions. The extension is generally rectangular as viewed from one end of the valve, and has outwardly bulged end walls as viewed from one side of the valve. The end walls are concave as viewed from the inside of the body. Also a method of manufacturing such a valve involving fabrication of a box-like structure with welding applied in a particular manner, after which hydraulic pressure is applied internally to pressure form the end walls of the structure to the desired configuration.

    摘要: A ball valve that is suitable for large pipe sizes (e.g., 20-40 inches or larger). The body is fabricated by welding from mill steel shapes (e.g., plate steel). The main pressure-retaining part of the body is a generally cylindrical shell made from a plurality of segments welded together. At least one and preferably two of the segments are flat plates which are welded to one or two cylindrical segments. The flat plate or plates serve to mount bearing means for journalling the ball. One of the end portions of the body for making connection with associated piping includes an annulus secured to one end of the shell, together with a conical shaped section and a pipe section connected between the annulus and the small end of the conical section. The annulus serves to mount a sealing assembly for the valve.

    摘要: A meter prover apparatus and method of the type making use of a metering pipe and an interchange connecting the ends of the pipe which uses a piston-like plunger having sealing means which fit into a launching sleeve interposed in the interchange, the spheres being successively moved through the sleeve and launched into the metering pipe by reciprocation of the plunger. The complete cycle is carried out in such a manner as to avoid jamming of spheres in the interchange. At the beginning and during a prover run leakage past the plunger is detected by reference to the pressure differential between the line and the space between the plunger sealing means. Also the seal integrity of each sphere can be checked to insure absence of fluid bypass about the sphere during a run.

    摘要: Meter-proving method and apparatus for calibrating liquid flow metering devices. It employs a metering pipe or loop through which the flow is diverted. A plug or sphere is launched into the inlet end of the pipe and is propelled through the pipe by the liquid flow during a proving run. A special sphere-launching device is provided to launch the sphere into the inlet end of the metering pipe, and also to retain the sphere after it has cleared the pipe, whereby it is ready for the next prover run. This device is constructed to establish seals between the inlet and outlet ends of the proving pipe during and after a run. Its inner shuttle part is movable between sphere retaining and launching positions, and in both positions line flow occurs directly through the device. The inner shuttle part can be withdrawn for replacement of a sphere. Leak detecting means is associated with the seals of the device to detect any leakage.

    摘要: A gate valve suitable for applications where the pressure on one side of the valve is negligible or relatively low, while the pressure on the other side of the valve may be substantially higher. A resilient seal is provided between the end of the wall of the body and the gate on one side of the valve, namely that side which may have a substantial pressure applied. On the other side of the body, the body space is ported to the corresponding flow passage of the valve, whereby leakage from the higher pressure side cannot apply to the body.
