摘要： A method of encapsulating a substrate, especially a splice in a telephone cable, comprises (1) preparing an assembly comprising the substrate; an enclosure, preferably a heat-shrinkable enclosure, around the substrate; sealing material within the enclosure; and a heater within the enclosure; and (2) using said heater to change the viscosity of the sealing material. Preferably the heater is a PTC heater, especially one which is attached to thermoplastic sealing material in the form of a sheet or tape. In this way a desired distribution of heat through the assembly can be obtained so that extended heating times can be used.

摘要： A seal is used to prevent the escape of gas from a gas pressurized plastic-jacketed, multi-conductor cable where the conductors of an unjacketed portion of the cable enter a cabinet of a terminal which is exposed to temperature cycling. The seal includes a sleeve made of an elastomeric material having one end which engages an end section of the cable jacket with the conductors of the unjacketed portion of the cable extending through the other end of the sleeve into the cabinet. The seal also includes a metallic tube which is disposed about the elastomeric sleeve with one of the end portions of the tube which is aligned with the cable jacket being in compressive engagement with the sleeve and jacket. A plugging compound in the other end portion of the tube and which is compliant with the sleeve material encapsulates the conductors and the other end of the sleeve which extends into the plugging compound. The compliancy of the sleeve and the plugging compound cause them to move together during temperature cycling to avoid the development of leak paths and the escape of gas from the cable.

摘要： A plurality of male tabs or "spades" protrude outwardly from spaced points around the periphery of one or more conductive body portions or blanks. 摘要： An enclosure for housing electrical apparatus associated with a buried cable assembly has a four-part construction in which a lower front cover is connected to a lower rear housing section, an upper rear housing section is secured to the lower rear housing section, and an upper front cover is attached to the upper rear housing section. A terminal mounting plate is pivotally attached to the upper housing section, and is movable between open and closed positions. When closed, the interior of the enclosure between the upper housing section and the upper cover is divided into front and rear compartments. The terminal mounting plate is normally locked in its closed position, with a special tool being required to unlock it to gain entry to cables, splices and terminals mounted behind the plate and to achieve access to a pair of bolts which secure the upper rear housing section to the lower rear housing section.

摘要： A kit of parts for forming an enclosure for a cable splice that rigidly fixes two or more spliced cables and moisture proofs the splice and exposed cable ends. The kit includes a vial partially filled with a body of sealant and a plug which receives the cable ends and then may be positioned in the vial and partially immersed in the body of sealant. By immersing the plug in the body of sealant, the sealant is forced upwardly and around the cable ends to fully enclose the cable splice and the cable ends in the sealant. Arms associated with the plug act to retain the plug on the vial.

摘要： A waterproof cable junction for connecting a number of service lines to a common cable. The junction provides a housing having a multi-line input cable and a plurality of single line output cables, the conductors of the input cable being spliced to the conductors of the output cables within the housing and the housing filled with a sealing or potting compound. Each of the output cables is of relatively short length with the outer end permanently sealed to prevent moisture from entering the housing through the free end of the outer cable. Preferably, the output cables are looped back so that the outer ends are brought back into the housing and sealed within the housing by the potting compound.
