摘要： An apparatus and method is disclcosed for cultivating soil and turf by utilization of pressurized liquid injected into the soil and turf. A roller assembly (33) is provided for applying mechanical pressure to the turf after cultivation. Further, a means for setting a first speed in a transport mode and a second speed in a cultivating mode is provided. The apparatus is designed to be bidirectional to allow the apparatus to be used in both a forward and reverse direction. The flow of the pressurized liquid is controlled to be at intervals of from about 0.010 to 0.065 seconds and at pressures from about 2,300 psi to about 5,500 psi through nozzles having diameters of from about 0.033 to about 0.090 inches. The apparatus (10) utilizes a water hammer effect to effect the flow of pressurized liquid out of the nozzles 55 and has found a relationship in the pressure and pounds per square inch of the cross-sectional area of the bore of the manifold to the accumulated area of the output ports of the nozzles.

摘要： A novel method is proposed for growing ground covers as sods. Advantage is taken of the growth habits of these types of plants to grow and expand laterally by planting them in permanent row/hill nurseries between which is placed plastic sheeting covered with an appropriate growing medium. The row/hill nurseries grow laterally into these areas and knit the growing medium into a sod which is harvested by cutting along the edge of the plastic sheeting. The latter may be harvested with the sod to protect it in shipment or left behind in place, covered with more growing medium, and the process repeated. The method, in comparison to the conventional method of planting ground covers by rooted cuttings one at a time, requires less labor to install, provides instant weed-free cover complete with mulch, and requires less watering and initial care.

摘要： An impeller blade spreader for dry fertilizer to be distributed uniformly over a lawn area has a standard fiber glass hopper that is mounted upon a base frame structure in combination with four wheels and a fuel powered motor therewith. Only the two front wheels are used for driving purposes. A timing and revolution interconnection to the impeller blade is combined with the motor used simultaneously for front wheel drive connection on the dry fertilizer spreader. A rod and lever engagement is provided for positive control of engagement of the transmission for transfer of driving power to the motorized front wheel drive and control of the opening and closing of the holes in the bottom of the hopper above the impeller blade of the dry fertilizer spreader to let dry fertilizer fall onto the spinning stainless steel impeller blade.

摘要： In the production of a carpet of grass or other vegetable matter, a compost made from wood bark which is crushed and gauged, is spread onto a substantially flat surface impermeable to plant roots, the compost being mixed with seed before, during, or after, application of the flat surface. The roots of the plants formed from the seed form a fabric embedded in the compost. The carpet thus formed may be easily detached from the flat surface.

摘要： A mobile spreader of the type drawn by a tractor includes a hopper mounted on a roller. The roller is provided with a jarring strip which imparts a jolt to the hopper on each revolution of the roller. This jolting action prevents bridging of the material in the hopper, knocking the hung-up material down into the lower portion of the hopper where an agitator and an impellor further stir up the material. The cooperative effect of the jarring strip, the agitator and the impellor is to provide a steady supply of material, even when moist material is being distributed. The rate of application of the material is controlled by a slidable apertured plate disposed across an opening in the bottom of the hopper. The spreader may be selectively provided with a rake, a floater plate, and a spiker. The spiker may be attached in front of the roller to open the turf to receive the material, or behind the roller to work the applied material into the turf. In addition, the spiker aerates the turf. The spreader is provided with a set of reverse pickup points as well as the normal pickup points to permit the spreader to be drawn in a backward or forward orientation, respectively, by a tractor. This permits the spreader to be used for applying an unusually wide variety of treatments to the turf.

摘要： An apparatus for laying sod comprising a wheeled frame which is propelled and steered by means of an engine which drives hydraulic motors connected to the drive wheels thereof. A sod platform is pivotally mounted adjacent its forward end to the wheeled frame and may be raised from a substantially horizontal position to a substantially vertical position by means of a hydraulic cylinder connected thereto. A fork-like support is provided at the forward end of the platform and is adapted to be inserted into a sod pallet when the platform is in the vertical position. As the platform is moved to the horizontal position, the sod members are positioned on the platform at the forward end thereof. A first conveyor is movably mounted on the platform to convey the sod members towards the rearward end of the platform. An upstanding support is secured to the conveyor for movement therewith for maintaining the sod members in a substantial upstanding position on the conveyor. A guide is provided at the rearward end of the frame for guiding the sod members leaving the rearward end of the first conveyor onto the ground. A second conveyor is provided at the rearward end of the first conveyor for moving the sod members from the rearward end of the first conveyor onto the guide. The method of this invention comprises the steps of:(1) Positioning the sod members on a substantially horizontally disposed conveyor in an upstanding and superposed relationship;(2) Moving the device in a predetermined direction over the ground to be sodded while simultaneously operating the conveyor so that the sod members pass from the rearward end thereof; and(3) Guiding the sod members into proper position onto the ground.

摘要： A sprig planting apparatus adapted to press sprigs such as bermuda into the surface of the earth has a frame, wheels mounted on the rear of the frame, a sprig hopper mounted on top of the frame, and a conveyor adapted to convey sprigs placed into the hopper to an opening in the front of the frame. At the opening is mounted a sprig separating and distributing device which lifts the sprigs from the conveyor and separates the bermuda sprigs and drops them through the opening onto the ground. Directly behind the opening and having the same width as the opening is mounted a plurality of discs journaled in a shaft to each side of the frame. These discs roll over the bermuda sprigs forcing them into the ground to a prescribed depth.
