A first collar journaled in the table about the shaft is rotatable for indexing purposes, and a second collar coupled to the shaft is provided for rotational engagement with the first collar to accept torque from the first collar while the mold halves are open, subject to manual disengagement of the collars by shift of the second collar axially of the shaft.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for combined injection moulding and blow forming of containers or objects of plastics material. A preform is formed on a mandrel by injection moulding. The mandrel with the preform is transferred from the injection mould to a blow forming mould and the preform is blow formed to the final product. It is characteristic of the invention that the preforms are formed in the injection mould and extracted from the injection mould at a higher rate than their forming in the blow forming mould, two or more preforms being simultaneously blow formed in two or more blow forming moulds. This arrangement has the advantage of providing complete independence of the two production cycles. The apparatus includes a conveyor for the mandrels carrying the preforms, this conveyor extending from an injection mould to a blow forming mould. The conveyor comprises a rail and carriages carried and guided by the rails, which carriages are movable independently of each other and of the rate of operation of the injection mould and blow forming mould. Two or more blow forming moulds are arranged along said conveyor.

    摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus for thermally conditioning a blowable shape or parison, prior to blow molding, so that a subsequent blowing operation can be carried out under conditions conducive to bi-axial orientation in the final blown article.More specifically, the parison is formed by conventional techniques, such as free extrusion or injection molding. The parison is then enclosed in a heat exchange chamber, having interior walls spaced substantially uniformly from the exterior of the parison, and the parison is exposed to a fluid heat transfer agent, so that the parison temperature is adjusted to that temperature at which the parison, upon expansion, will become bi-axially oriented. The fluid agent can either heat or cool the parison to the desired temperature.

The finished articles are urged horizontally to the side into a receiving device such as a trough. The trough may be arranged to receive both finished articles and scrap pieces and both convey away the finished articles and dispose of the scrap pieces. Preferably, air blasts or jets are used both to clear scrap from the base on which the preform rests as the article is being formed and also to blow the finished article off of this base to the receiving device.

A parison is first formed in a mold cavity into a blown article of a shape comprising a tubular portion having an outwardly convex closed end. The tubular portion is then cooled while the convex end is heated and then moved into the tubular portion whereupon its curvature is reversed as it becomes a recessed outwardly concave end. The mold may comprise a tubular section, a heated, separately retractable neck section, and an end section which pinches off the parison and is movable into the tubular section after retraction of the neck section for inward movement of the convex end.

    摘要: A blow molding machine for making plastic articles has the plastic blown to the desired shape without requiring a blow mold cavity. A plastic coating is applied to a core rod which is covered by an expandible balloon, in deflated condition, hugging the core rod. The extent of expansion of the blown article is regulated by metering the amount of fluid used for blowing; and more accurate control can be obtained by using a liquid for blowing. A stream of air against the outside of the plastic cools the article. By making the wall of the balloon thicker at localized areas the expansion and consequent shape of the article can be controlled. If wide flat bottoms are desired, a baffle can be used for regulating the lengthwise expansion of the balloon and blown article.

    摘要: An injection blow molding machine for molding plastic receptacles is provided with a clamping plate on which is mounted a parison mold, a pair of split blow molds, one on each side of the parison mold and in line therewith, together with a pair of receptacle ejection or removing stations similarly arranged and in an in-line relationship. A second indexing plate is arranged in space relationship to the clamping plate and on which four inlined core rod assemblies are mounted. The indexing plate is reciprocal towards and away from the clamping plate; and, at the same time, the indexing plate is reciprocal laterally in a plane parallel to the clamping plate. As a result of this relative linear motion, the two inner core rod assemblies are adapted to be sequentially coupled with the parison mold in forming the parison. This parison is adapted to be transferred while on the core rod assembly to a blow mold while the other core rod assembly of the central pair is then coupled with the parison mold. A split neck mold may form part of the inner pair of core rod assemblies for purposes of forming a threaded neck on the parison. The parison transferred to the blow mold is blown into the selected configuration against the cavity walls and the plastic is oriented for purposes of maintaining this configuration. When this orientation has been accomplished, the two inner core rod assemblies are reciprocated back to their original position at which the parison on the other core rod assembly is transferred to the other blow mold while the core rod associated with the blown parison is stripped therefrom and returned to the injection mold. During this lateral reciprocation, one of the two outer core rod assemblies is coupled with the blown plastic parison. Cooling air is passed through this core rod assembly to cool the blown parison. The introduced cooling air is adapted to bleed between the neck opening and the associated core rod which is preferably formed of relatively soft material. The other core rod of relatively soft material will have reciprocated from its associated blow mold to the neighboring ejection station. At this station, the cooled blown parison forming the finished receptacle will be removed from this core rod and transferred to the selected packaging station.
