    摘要: An article carrier is provided for blow molding equipment which permits relatively simple exchange of the article gripping chuck portion of the carrier. The carrier includes a carrier body, a spindle rotatably supported by the body, an article gripping chuck removeably attached to the spindle and seals between the chuck and the spindle and between the chuck and a preform retained thereby. The chuck is provided with article gripping levers preferably rotatably supported by ball and socket joints. The levers have preform grasping projections at one end and first and second ball ends at the other end. The first ball end mates with the chuck body socket and the second ball end is engaged by a lever actuating ring slidably mounted on the outside of the chuck body.

    摘要: A completely self-contained apparatus and associated technique for the manufacture of large fiberglass structures. In a preferred embodiment, the system is designed to manufacture large fiberglass storage tanks for liquids, and is self-contained from the point of view that the machine is capable of performing all manufacturing steps without any auxiliary equipment and may be set up virtually anywhere that can provide a source of electricity and air. The main components of the machine include an operator's carriage which is cantilevered from a rear frame so as to enable same to be inserted into the open end of a large, substantially cylindrical revolving mold having a closed, substantially hemispherical end portion. The carriage includes an overhead canopy for the protection of the operator, as well as fresh air intake and exhaust fans to provide adequate ventilation for the operator. A raw material applicator is positioned in the forward portion of the carriage and is designed to apply the appropriate proportions of chopped fiberglass roving, resin and catalyst to the inner surface of the mold as the carriage reciprocates therein. The mold is split longitudinally so that when the fiberglass laminate has sufficiently hardened, the upper mold half may be raised while the carriage is in the mold by hoisting means positioned on both sides of the carriage. The carriage is then backed out of the mold with the upper mold half suspended overhead, and the finished product may then be removed from the lower half of the mold by a gantry crane which forms part of the machine.

    摘要: To produce hollow articles of a thermoplastic by extrusion blowing a parison is transferred from the extruder die into the blow mold by means of a gripper device comprising two gripper arms which work hand-over-hand, alternatively grip the parison as it issues from the die and draw it at an adjustable take-off speed, which is greater than the speed of extrusion, into a blow mold waiting under the die, and the blow mold, after the gripper arm has passed the lower edge of the mold, closes about the parison still hanging from the die, the second gripper arm grips the parison just above the blow mold before the parison is severed between the upper edge of the mold and the gripper arm, the filled blow mold makes room for the next blow mold, the parison inserted in the mold is inflated in a manner which is in itself known to form the hollow body, the latter is released from the mold, and the entire sequence is repeated as a continuous set of cycles.

    摘要: An injection-blow molding machine is provided with non-splitting injection and blow molds mounted in stationary relationship on a first platen with the axes of the molds parallel with each other and with a spindle situated equidistant from the molds. Parison pins which cooperate with the two molds are mounted on a second movable platen connected to the end of the spindle and are inserted and withdrawn from the molds as the spindle and the second platen are reciprocated toward and away from the molds. The second platen is also rotatable about the spindle axis to permit the parison pins to be indexed between the injection and blow molds so that parisons can be formed in the injection mold and transferred to the blow mold where a final article such as a container is formed. Neckring segments are mounted on the second platen in cooperative relationship with the parison pins to form the neck portion of a container, and the neckring segments include projecting portions which mate with annular grooves around the mouth of the blow mold to define a shoulder of the blown container between the mouth of the non-splitting mold and the neck of the container.
