摘要:
A nuclear fuel assembly tie plate is provided. The nuclear fuel assembly tie plate is formed by intersecting strips delimiting between them tubular guide cells each for allowing a fuel rod to extend through the tie plate. The strips delimit between them tubular flow cells separate from the guide cells, each flow cell for allowing coolant flow through the tie plate. Guide cells and flow cells are arranged at nodes of a lattice defined by a repeating pattern comprising four corner nodes in a square lattice arrangement and a central node at the center of the four corner nodes, with one guide cell at each corner nodes, separated by a pair of parallel spaced strips intersecting a pair of parallel spaced strips, the two pairs of strips delimiting a four-walled central flow cell at the center node.

A coupling structure of a fuel assembly includes a screw coupling means to provide a coupling structure of a fuel assembly which prevents foreign matters from mixing in the fuel and in which no vertical play is generated at a fitting portion between a latch sleeve 10 and a lock key 20. The coupling structure of the fuel assembly includes: the latch sleeve 10 having a projecting portion 11 formed at an upper end portion thereof; an upper nozzle 30 having formed therein a latch sleeve installation hole 31 into which the upper end portion of the latch sleeve 10 is inserted; and the lock key 20 which is installed inside the latch sleeve installation hole 31, and which has an opening portion 21 formed on a bottom surface thereof, the opening portion 21 having a shape corresponding to the projecting portion 11. The screw coupling means screw couples the lock key 20 to the upper nozzle 30 with a male screw thread 23 formed on a side surface of the lock key 20.

The invention refers to a fuel assembly comprising a lower end structure, an upper end structure including a top nozzle (5), a plurality of fuel rods and a plurality of guide thimbles (3). The top nozzle includes a passageway and an annular groove (10) in said passageway. A sleeve (11) is provided for attaching the guide thimble (3) to the top nozzle (5). The sleeve has at least three slots (12) and includes at least three bulges (13). Each bulge (13) has two ends and extends between two of the slots (12). At least one of the ends of the bulge (13) extends to a position at a distance (d) from the respective slot (12). The invention also refers to a guide thimble device (9) for use in a fuel assembly.

Example embodiments are directed to tie plate attachments having irradiation targets and/or fuel assemblies having example embodiment tie plate attachments with irradiation targets and methods of using the same to generate radioisotopes. Example embodiment tie plate attachments may include a plurality of retention bores that permit irradiation targets to be contained in the retention bores. Irradiation targets may be irradiated in an operating nuclear core including the fuel assemblies, generating radioisotopes that may be harvested from the spent nuclear fuel assembly by removing example embodiment tie plate attachments.

A spacer for a fuel element of a boiling water reactor contains cells that are formed by inner partitions, which are disposed in a crisscross manner, and by outer partitions, which surround the inner partitions in a frame-like manner. A guiding device is placed on the spacer and contains a flow-through opening, which is located in an outer partition. The guiding device also contains a guiding element which, when viewed in the direction of flow of the coolant, is located in front of the flow-through opening, and is situated at a distance from the inner side of the outer partition, and interacts with the flow-through opening like a venturi nozzle.

A fuel assembly (16) for a boiling-water nuclear reactor arranged in groups with four fuel assemblies in each group and with a centrally placed control rod (17) forming a supercell. Each fuel assembly (16) includes a plurality of vertical fuel rods (12) with enriched nuclear fuel material (24), said rods being arranged between a bottom tie plate (13) and a top tie plate (14) in a surrounding vertical fuel channel (1) which is connected to a transition section (2). The transition section is provided with holes (20a-d) for by-pass flow outside the fuel assembly. The fuel assembly is characterized in that the by-pass holes are arranged in such a way that when turning the fuel assembly (16), including the transition section (2), 90.degree., 180.degree. or 270.degree. around the longitudinal axis of the fuel assembly, said holes are adapted to direct the by-pass flow away from the control rod (17).
