    Abstract: Battery pack chargers for charging a battery pack include one or more battery pack receiving portions, a power control module, and a power conversion unit. The one or more battery pack receiving portions receive and interface with the battery pack. The battery pack includes one or more battery cells. The power control module provides power to the one or more battery pack receiving portions using pulse amplitude modulation (PAM). The power conversion unit converts the power received from the first external source to a first DC power used for charging the one or more battery cells.

    Abstract: Switch drive circuits include galvanically isolated switch circuits with power transfer from the switch driver input side to the switch side. A switch drive circuit uses a single transformer to transfer control signals to a secondary side for control of the switch along with power to a secondary side circuit to drive the switch in response to the control signals. By detecting the control signal first before drawing current, the effects of leakage inductance in the transformer are reduced.

The digital controller can include a relatively faster DC-DC stage controller that receives DC-DC stage feedback signal(s) and produces DC-DC drive signal(s) for switching device(s) of the DC-DC stage; a relatively slower PFC stage controller that receives PFC feedback signal(s) and produces PFC drive signal(s) for switching device(s) of the PFC stage; and control logic that receives periodic output power indications of the AC-DC power supply and uses them to cause the PFC drive signal(s) to respond to a change in output power of the AC-DC power supply more quickly than would be achieved by the relatively slower PFC stage controller.

    Abstract: In a power converter that includes a switched-capacitor circuit connected to a switched-inductor circuit, reconfiguration logic causes the switched-capacitor circuit to transition between first and second switched-capacitor configurations with different voltage-transformation ratios.     Abstract: A power factor correction circuit includes a series circuit in which a reactor L and a control switch Q1 are connected in series to both ends of a rectifier circuit 2 that rectifies input voltage of an AC power supply, a series circuit in which a synchronous rectification switch Q2 and an output capacitor C1 are connected to two main terminals of the control switch, and a control circuit 10 that alternately turns on and off the control switch and the synchronous rectification switch so that output voltage of the output capacitor becomes a first predetermined value and controls ON time of the control switch so that a peak value of current flowing through the control switch is proportional to input voltage. The control circuit turns on and off the control switch and the synchronous rectification switch so as to adjust a reverse excitation amount for reverse excitation of the reactor by causing current flowing through the reactor to reversely flow from the output voltage side to the input voltage side, and the reverse excitation amount is adjusted to a second predetermined value regardless of input voltage Vi.

    Abstract: A multi-phase PFC (power factor correction) system, controller, and method of controlling the multi-phase PFC system are described. The method includes operating the phases under variable frequency control to interleave current delivered by the plurality of phases to a load. During a switching cycle for the phases, a phase synchronization correction indicator is activated if a predetermined crossing point along a rising or falling slope of the current delivered by a second phase is misaligned with the same predetermined crossing point along the opposite slope of the current delivered by a first phase. During the next switching cycle, a switching period of the second phase is adjusted if the phase synchronization correction indicator was activated during the previous switching cycle.

    Abstract: An isolated, power factor corrected, converter, for operation from a three-phase AC source, comprises three power processors, each power processor connected to one of the three phases. Each power processor comprises a cascade of a first and a second power conversion stage. At least one of the first and second power converters in each power processor is configured to provide galvanic isolation through a DC Transformer between the power processor input and output. At least one of the first and second power converters in each power processor is configured to provide power factor correction at the AC source. Substantially all of the bulk energy storage and low frequency filtering is provided by storage elements at the output of the power system. Low voltage semiconductor devices may be cascaded to implement low output capacitance high voltage switches in a multi-cell resonant converter for high voltage applications.
