    摘要: The number of digits required to place a pre-paid card (or other special service) telephone call is reduced by using information derived from prior calls from a particular originating station and stored at a special service call platform. Originating station information, typically ANI and account number and PIN information associated with a particular pre-paid card is stored at the platform. Subsequent calls to the platform from the same originating station use this stored information to identify the account; the account number and PIN are, in accordance with an illustrative embodiment, taken to be the same as for the immediately preceding call with the same ANI information. An authorization expiration is advantageously associated with ANI information and selected originating locations, e.g., coin stations, hotels and the like are denied simplified authorization to minimize the potential for unauthorized use. Account information may also include default called party information to further reduce the number of dialed digits required.

A caller initiates a call by lifting a handset and dialing a toll-free telephone number. The call is routed over through a local telephone switch or through an Internet Service Provider. A credit or payment is issued to the caller for each minute the call continues. Brief commercial messages are played to the participants of the call to promote goods or services offered by a sponsor. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, a Speech Recognition Engine deploys a sponsor's precisely targeted promotion when key words spoken during the call are detected.

In general, embodiments of the present invention place more stringent standards on signals that have been newly assigned to a finger and may be spurious and place less stringent standards on mature signals that have proved themselves over time but may be experiencing only a temporary signal quality shortfall. Illustrative embodiments of the present invention accomplish this goal using one or more of four techniques. The first technique de-assigns a signal from a finger when a measure of signal quality of the signal crosses a threshold, while changing the threshold as a function of the duration that the signal has been assigned to the finger.

    摘要: A vending machine for dispensing telecommunications access is disclosed. A customer interested in using the telecommunications access makes a payment into the payment processing unit which forwards the payment information to the central control unit. The central control unit reports the transaction information to a central computer system via its modem connected to a telecommunication channel. Access to the same telecommunication channel or another channel can be made available to the customer via a switchable telecommunications access circuit which is also controlled by the central control unit. The customer connects to the telecommunications channel via the telecommunications access connector. The central control unit provides information on the progress of the vending transaction to the customer via the user interface. The central control unit determines when the transaction is completed by sensing the cessation of usage via the usage detection circuit or via customer action at the user interface.
