    Abstract: A system for scheduling resources in a wireless network is provided. The system includes an access node configured to deploy a first radio air interface. The system also includes a relay node configured to attach to the first radio air interface and to deploy a second radio air interface to which one or more end-user wireless devices are attached. The system further includes a processor configured to perform operations including determining an indicator of congestion at the relay node, prioritizing traffic based on the indicator of congestion and a channel bandwidth between the relay node and the access node, and scheduling resources based on the prioritized traffic.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are described for assigning wireless resources to a high power wireless device. In some embodiments, a quality of service metric used for communication between a wireless device and an access node is identified, wherein the wireless device is configured to transmit an uplink signal at a first signal level that meets a power criteria. Default uplink resource are assigned to the wireless device based on the identified quality of service criteria, wherein the default uplink resources are associated with a default wireless device configured to transmit an uplink signal at a second signal level that does not meet the power criteria. And uplink communication is received at the access node from the wireless device using the assigned default uplink resources.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are described for donor access node (DeNB) selection at a relay access node (AN). A plurality of DeNBs may be identified, the DeNBs being located within a radio range of the relay AN. A metric may be calculated at the relay AN and used by the relay AN to select multiple, preferred DeNBs from the plurality of DeNBs. The relay AN may simultaneously request a connection to each of the multiple, preferred DeNBs. Data signals may be combined for transport at the relay AN and sent to end-user wireless devices, the multiple, preferred DeNBs, or both.

A group call random access (RACH) preamble selected from a subset of predetermined random access preambles associated with a group call may be received at an access node from a first wireless device, wherein the group call random access preamble indicates to the access node that a group call is to be established. A RACH response may be transmitted to the first wireless device comprising an uplink resource grant associated with a group call setup, wherein the uplink resource grant is greater than uplink resource grant associated with a default RACH response. And the group call may be established by communicating with the first wireless device based on the uplink resource grant associated with group call setup, wherein the group call is established between at least the first wireless device and a second wireless device.

    Abstract: A control element of a first wireless communication network, such as a mobility management entity, determines that a wireless device is being served by a second wireless communication network. The control element also receives an indicator associated with the availability of a base station in the first wireless communication network to serve the wireless device. Based on the indicator, the control element initiates a handover of the wireless device from the second wireless communication network to the first wireless communication network.     Abstract: A method for donor selection in a relay access node includes identifying a plurality of candidate donor access nodes and obtaining one or more characteristics associated with each of the plurality of candidate donor access nodes. The method further includes determining a primary donor access node based on a comparison of the one or more characteristics between each of the plurality of candidate donor access nodes, and receiving a reference signal transmitted by the primary donor access node at a transmission power higher than a transmission power of downlink information transmitted by the primary donor access node. One or more quality characteristics of the primary donor access node are evaluated, and based on the one or more quality characteristics meeting a predetermined threshold, a connection to the primary donor access node is requested.     Abstract: A relay wireless device is configured to function as a relay on behalf of a donor access node. The relay wireless device determines a preferred donor access node from among a plurality of candidate donor access nodes based on a measurement of a reference signal, such as an RSRP or SINR, associated with each access node within a range of the relay wireless device. The access nodes may be prioritized based on the measurement, as well as based on a maximum number of dedicated random access preambles provided by each access node, and a default paging cycle of each access node. The access node that has the highest priority based on a good RSRP/SINR, a high number of dedicated random access preambles, and a large paging cycle, is selected as the preferred donor access node, and a connection request submitted to the preferred donor access node.

    Abstract: Backhaul data may be communicated between an access node and a relay wireless device, wherein the relay wireless device serves as backhaul for a plurality of end-user wireless devices and a set of the plurality of the end-user wireless devices comprise a quality of service metric that meets a quality of service criteria. Wireless resources may be scheduled for the relay wireless device using pre-allocated scheduling such that wireless resources are pre-allocated for the relay wireless device. Data may be aggregated for the set of end-user wireless devices that is received at the access node between scheduled transmissions for the pre-allocated scheduling. And the aggregated data may be transmitted, according to the pre-allocated scheduling, from the access node to the relay wireless device at a next transmission for the pre-allocated scheduling.
