Abstract:
A device in which a displaced member will automatically return to its rest position after a delay comprises a container partially filled with a viscous fluid. The container is mounted so that it can be moved between a first, stable (rest) position and a second, semistable position in which the fluid will flow slowly away from its rest position. When the fluid has moved away from its rest position sufficiently, it will cause the center of gravity of the container to shift to one side of a pivot, whereupon the container will make an automatically delayed return to its first position. The container is employed as a box lid which will close automatically a predetermined time after being opened so that it can be used as an interval timer and/or a scent release mechanism. The container is also mounted in a human novelty figure in such a manner that if it is tipped over it will return automatically to an upright position after a predetermined delay.
Abstract:
An air damper comprises a cylinder having air ports at its upper and lower portions, a piston rod, a piston movably mounted on one end of the piston rod, a return spring, an air passage provided between upper and lower chambers within the cylinder which passage is opened and closed by the movement of the piston, and an air regulating valve press-fit into the lower air port portion of the cylinder.
Abstract:
Mounting means for a door-check for a hatchway door hinged to swing between an elevated open position and a closed position and having torsion bars which serve not only as springs for counterbalancing the weight of the door, but also as the hinge pins for the door. Each torsion bar has a terminal portion which is bent backwardly into parallel relation with a straight portion, the terminal portion extending through the hinge and forming the hinge pin. The straight portion is secured at its other end to the hatchway frame and is twisted about the terminal portion by the hinge as the door is closed. The door-check member is mounted on the hatchway frame and is connected to a bracket mounted across the crook formed in the torsion bar where the terminal portion bends backward. The bracket therefore pivots about the hinge pin with the main portion of the torsion bar when the door is closed and provides a crank arm for actuating the door-check.
Abstract:
A spring or gravity motor having an override mechanism for a movable window or door including a pneumatic cylinder, a piston, a check valve admitting air to the cylinder, an override valve permitting pressure dumping of the air in the cylinder during movement of the door or window at a speed greater than the normal closing speed by the motor.
Abstract:
A piece of furniture has a door or panel swingably mounted by means of a hinge. An elongated biased stud is mounted on a wall of the furniture piece pivotable in such manner that its free end engages the hinge and urges the door to closed position only during the initial increment of the door''s movement to open position and the final increment of the door''s movement to closed position.
