Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for minimizing obstruction of a media asset by an overlay by predicting a path of movement of an object of interest of the media asset and avoiding placement of the overlay in the path of movement. To this end, a media guidance application may detect an object of interest in a first frame of a media asset, and may determine a determining a first location of the object in the first frame and a second location of the object of interest in a second frame. The media guidance application may calculate, based on the first location and the second location, a projected location of the object of interest in a third frame of the media asset, and may generate for display an overlay in a location that does not overlap with any of the first location, the second location, and the projected location.

Abstract: A media guidance application may determine a length of a portion of a media asset that the user has missed and compare the length with a threshold length. If the length is greater than the threshold length, the media guidance application may generate a first summary of the missed portion of the media asset based on segments of the missed portion of the media asset that are of a first importance. If the length is not greater than the threshold length, the media guidance application may generate a second summary of the missed portion of the media asset based on segments of the missed portion of the media asset that are of the first importance and the second importance. The media guidance application may generate for display the summary.

Abstract: The methods and systems described herein reorder feed items. In one example, the methods and systems store in a memory feed items in a defined sequential order for display in a feed. The methods and systems monitoring a speed of scrolling the feed items (scroll speed) on a user device. The methods and systems also determine that the scroll speed is equal or greater than a scroll threshold and in response to the determination reorder one or more of the feed items in a new order for display in the feed. The methods and systems also generate for display the one or more feed items in the feed in the new order.

The systems and methods may receive a first media asset viewed by a user, determine a first character in the first media asset, and include the first character in the character viewing profile for the user. Further, the systems and methods may receive a second media asset, including the first character, determine that a second character appears in the second media asset, and determine that the second character is not in the character viewing profile. The systems and methods may recommend a third media asset to the user for the second character.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for providing a media guidance application that resizes content based on a relative importance of the content. For example, a display may have first and second content generated for display. If the first content is more important to a user than the second content, a size of the first content will be increased with respect to a size of the second content on the display. If the second content is more important to the user than the first content, then a size of the second content will be increased with respect to a size of the first content on the display.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for indicating whether a scene in a media asset corresponds to a scene for which a scene change was previously requested. A media player client monitors scene sequences in a media asset to anticipate whether the user will initiate a scene change request based on historical scene change data. In response to detecting a scene sequence for which the user is expected to request a scene change, the media player client determines whether a scene change is necessary and outputs an indication of whether a scene change is recommended.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for providing content during reduced streaming quality. Data streaming is susceptible to degradation in quality that adversely affects the delivery of content. For example, sufficient reduction in streaming quality can cause video and audio portions of a data stream to become unsynchronized. In place of displaying a buffering notification, the system displays a previously stored video frame that the system determines is a suitable replacement for the currently streamed video frame that is affected by the sufficiently reduced streaming quality.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for determining personalized timing for generating for display advertisements to users. Rather than an expert determining time segments of a media asset most suitable for presenting advertisements to users, the most suitable time segments in a media asset for presenting advertisements to users may be customized based on a user's profile information and/or the user's level of engagement in a media asset. The media guidance application may parse a media asset into multiple time segments and determine one or more time segments associated with metadata that matches content characteristics preferred by the user. One or more advertisements may be presented to the user in these time segments determined by the media guidance application instead of the time segments determined by the expert.

Abstract: The system and methods described generate a content playlist by receiving, from a content device, a request for a content playlist.
