Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for a media guidance application that provides advanced parental control features. As described herein, these advanced parental control features may allow parents to establish parental controls in a dynamic and individualized manner. Moreover, the media guidance application may relieve a first user (e.g., a parent) of the burden of continually monitoring the statistical analysis (e.g., a ratio) of the programming choices of a second user (e.g., a child) by establishing one or more threshold analyzes (e.g., a threshold ratio) that the media guidance application may automatically compare to the statistical analysis of the programming choices of the second user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for detecting that a given segment in a media asset currently being consumed will be interrupted by an event and, responsively, modifying playback of the media asset such that either the start time or the end time of the given segment coincides with the start time of the interrupting event. Modifying playback of the media asset to cause the end time of the given segment to coincide with the start time of the interrupting event may entail fast-forwarding through or removing one or more segments from the playback of the media asset. Modifying playback of the media asset to cause the start time of the given segment to coincide with the start time of the interrupting event may entail inserting one or more segments of secondary content into the playback of the media asset.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for automatically enabling subtitles based on a user profile when a language is spoken with an accent a user has difficulty understanding. For example, a media guidance application may detect a first plurality of user interactions of the user while the given language is being spoken with the accent. Based on the first plurality of interactions, the media guidance application may calculate a first value associated with a user specific level of difficulty indicating how difficult it is for the user to understand the language when spoken with the accent. If the first plurality of user interactions are not being performed again, the media guidance application may update the user specific difficulty with a second value that is lower than the first value. The media guidance application may automatically generate for display subtitles for a media asset based on the user specific level of difficulty.

If a user is prevented from viewing media having important content that will be displayed eminently, the media having the important content may be displayed on a second device. For example, in this manner, a user will not inadvertently miss content from a movie or sports game right before an important scene in the movie or an important play in the sports game is displayed.

Abstract: Methods and systems for a media guidance application that may enhance viewer experience. The media guidance application may tune to a first program with a first tuner and generate for display the first program on a display area of a display device, determine additional programs for display, monitor the additional programs for upcoming events of interest to the user, display segments of the additional programs with the second tuner, determine an event of interest and automatically modify a portion of the display area corresponding to the segment with the second tuner. The second tuner cycles between the additional programs to periodically update the segments of the additional programs generated for display.
