    摘要: Apparatus capable of performing wet and dry machining processes such as a hobbing machine for producing spur and helical gears, shafts, splines, and the like, by wet and dry hobbing methods. The apparatus comprises means to remove metal chips resulting from the wet and dry machining processes from the apparatus via respective independent wet and dry chip outlets. The chip removal means comprises a transfer means located in the machine base with the transfer means being reversible in direction in order to convey metal chips, emanating from the machining process, to the respective wet or dry chip outlet. The chip removal means enables metal chips from wet machining processes to be conveyed to and discharged from an outlet in one side surface and metal chips from dry machining processes to be conveyed to and discharged from an outlet in another side surface.

The probe module is mounted on the machine's tool support and is used in conjunction with locating points positioned on the machine's work support to monitor and recalibrate the relative positions of the tool and work supports. The probe module is also used to monitor the flanks of the gear-shaped workpieces (a) for initial stock division, (b) for pre-machining accuracy, (c) for first-piece testing, (d) for in-process accuracy, and (e) for post-machining accuracy. The same probe module is used in combination with a sacrificial test wafer mounted on the work support for adjusting the position of the machine's cup-shaped grinding wheel following each dressing of the latter's working surfaces.

    摘要: A tool, for dressing both the inside and outside working surfaces of cup-shaped abrasive wheels used for grinding gears, is disclosed along with methods and apparatus for using the tool. The working portion of the dressing tool has a cylindrical shape with an outside surface parallel to its axis of rotation and a top surface extending radially, to the axis of rotation. The apparatus orients the tool relative to the grinding wheel so that only the outer cylindrical surface of the tool is used to dress the inside working surface of the grinding wheel, while only the top surface of the tool is used to dress the outside working surface of the wheel. Formulas are provided for calculating the optimum radius of the cylindrical surface of the tool for providing substantially equal effective relative curvatures between the tool and each of the respective sides of the grinding wheel, thereby resulting in similar grinding characteristics being dressed into both the inside and outside working surfaces of the grinding wheel.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for stock dividing gear-shaped workpieces mounted on the work spindle of a gear-finishing tool. A work spindle encoder provides instantaneous angular position information when the surface of leading and trailing flanks of the workpiece teeth are sensed by a probe. This instantaneous position information is used to generate two sets of measured error values which relate, respectively, to the leading and trailing flanks and which are indicative of the differences between the sensed surrfaces and the desired surfaces of a correctly-sized gear. These sets of error values are analyzed using fourier transform techniques to generate (a) a first harmonic for each set and (b) a set of modified error values for each leading and trailing flank corresponding to each respective first harmonic. The largest and smallest modified error values of each set are used to simulate the opposite sides of the largest and smallest "effective" (as different from "actual") tooth spaces of the unfinished workpiece, and these effective spacings are compared to the desired correctly-sized tooth space of a finished gear to generate a correction value for adjusting the angular position of the workpiece relative to the finishing tool prior to initiation of the finishing process. In the preferred embodiment, a non-contact probe is used for sensing the flanks of the workpiece so that the entire stock division procedure takes only a relatively few seconds.

The width of the blades that cut the longitudinally extending convex or concave profiles of the flanks of the teeth is increased to a dimension greater than the width of the tooth slot at the toe end whereby additional stock is removed from the toe end of the flank opposite the flank being cut by the blades. The relief is formed at the toe end of each tooth with the relief being on the same flank profile for all teeth. Lapping interference is eliminated. A separate chamfering operation is not required.

    摘要: A differential gearing assembly including a differential case 10 that mounts axle drive gears 22 rotatably engaged with axles 20 and transfer gearing 50 for cross coupling the axle drive gears. The axle ends are secured to the differential assembly by lock rings 32 received by lock ring grooves formed on the axle ends. A thrust spacer maintains the predetermined spaced apart position of the axle ends and in one embodiment 26 comprises elements 26a 26b which when joined together by a fastener 28 capture the lock rings in their installed positions on the axle ends. The transfer gearing includes transfer gears 50 rotatably coupled to each other by intermediate gearing 54. In an alternate embodiment, a thrust spacer 70 is bisected along a line defined by stepped confronting surfaces 74a, 74b, 74c to define interfitting halves 72a, 72b. Each half is configured and sized to facilitate removal through an opening defined between the intermediate gears. The inclination angles of the teeth on the axle drive gears 22 are equal but opposed so that equal and opposed thrust forces are exerted on the differential case.
