摘要: An optical coupler for a fiber optic communication system, which couples one band of wavelengths out of the fiber while allowing others to be carried further. This allows wavelength division multiplexing of different signals within a single fiber. The preferred embodiment of the invention is comprised of a waveguide having aperiodic corrugations in one wall and a Fabry-Perot type resonator enclosing the waveguide around the corrugations with its axis transverse thereto.

摘要: Known electronic countermeasures systems have difficulty handling some modern radar signals, for example frequency agile, frequency sliding or frequency coded signals. The invention disclosed overcomes the problems of the prior art by using an analog frequency dividing system to virtually instantaneously down-convert received signals in octave steps and in octave stages into the frequency regimes associated with the operation of processing devices, such as analog to digital converters, digital logic devices, surface acoustic wave devices, and charge coupled devices. Those processed signals which are selected for retransmission, perhaps in a modified form, are then up-converted into the region of the received signal by the appropriate number of stages of frequency multipliers. Any modification in such signal parameters as signal duration, delay, frequency, phase, power, amplitude or spectral content may be incorporated prior to the first multiplication stage, between multiplication stages, after the last multiplication stage, or any combination of the above.

摘要: An apparatus to determine the three-dimensional shape of an array under water using a CCD camera with a field-of-view directed towards the array and a plurality of LED light sources attached to the array which emit light near the attenuation minimum of the water and towards the camera. The camera obtains images of each light source individually from which the x and y co-ordinates of the images of each light source can be determined. Pressure sensors on each light source and camera determine the difference in depth between the camera and the light sources and, with the x and y co-ordinates, the apparatus determines the three-dimensional position of each light source.

摘要: An adaptive receiver for determining parameters of an incoming signal is provided. The adaptive receiver includes: a) a plurality of antenna channels; each of the antenna channels including a respective antenna element for receiving the incoming signal and for outputting a respective antenna channel signal; b) a switching matrix operatively coupled to receive antenna channel signals from the antenna channels; the switching matrix for distributing the antenna channel signals to a plurality of receiver channels according to a predetermined mapping; c) a multi-channel down-converter operatively coupled to receive the antenna channel signals from the receiver channels; the multi-channel down-converter for processing the antenna channel signals to output respective intermediate frequency signals; d) a plurality of analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) operatively coupled to receive the intermediate frequency signals from the multi-channel down-converter; the ADCs for converting the intermediate frequency signals to digital signals; the digital signals being indicative of at least the phase and amplitude of the incoming signal; and, e) a digital processor operatively coupled to receive the digital signals from the ADCs for determining the parameters.

The end plate's edges are secured to an outer one-piece thin walled shell that provides a waterproof enclosure for the driver. That thin walled shell has a concavely inwardly bent surface between the end plates and a plurality of axially extending corrugations to provide a predetermined axial compliance and radial-to-axial transformation ratio.

摘要: A decoy flare for infrared (IR) seeking missiles comprises a tubular outer shell with a first rupturing disc sealing a rear end of the outer shell and a cover member with a second rupturing disc sealing a front end of the outer shell. These form a sealed container for a pyrophoric liquid. A nozzle cap is attached to the cover member with a nozzle being located in front of the second rupturing disc. A piston in the container adjacent the first rupturing disc separates the pyrophoric liquid from the disc. A holder for a gas generator, a disc of energetic material, is connected in sealed relationship to the container to position the gas generator adjacent the first rupturing disc and form a gas generating chamber between the holder and that disc. That holder contains an ignition mechanism for the gas generator and a seal to prevent gases from escaping via the ignition mechanism after it is activated. Gases generated in the chamber will rupture the first rupturing disc, pushing the piston forward to rupture the second disc and eject pyrophoric liquid from the nozzle. A base portion connected to the flare forms a holder for an impulse cartridge that separates the flare from the base portion when activated, that separation activating the ignition mechanism. In these decoy flares, a friction wire safety ignition mechanism may be used to activate the gas generator upon separation of the flare from the base or, alternatively, a bore rider safety ignition mechanism may be used.

摘要: Novel energetic azido thermoplastic elastomers (ATPE's) are described. Such materials are useful as binders in energetic formulations to replace conventional inert thermosetting prepolymers. The ATPE's are easily formulated either by blending or chemically bonding an energetic azido elastomeric component and a thermoplastic component. The elastomeric component is a branched chain hydroxy-terminated azido polymer or copolymer. The thermoplastic component is a commercial polyether or polyethylene oxide.
