摘要: A process for restoring the selectivity of high-flee-volume, glassy polymer membranes for condensable components over less-condensable components or non-condensable components of a gas mixture. The process involves exposing the membrane to suitable sorbent vapor, such as propane or butane, thereby reopening the microvoids that make up the free volume. The selectivity of an aged membrane may be restored to 70-100% of its original value. The selectivity of a membrane which is known to age over time can also be maintained by keeping the membrane in a vapor environment when it is not in use.

摘要: Improved processes for treating gas streams containing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, particularly natural gas streams. The processes rely on the availability of a membrane that maintains high hydrogen sulfide/methane selectivity and adequate hydrogen sulfide/carbon dioxide selectivity when measured with multicomponent gas mixtures at high pressure. The processes have three steps: an acid gas removal step, to remove both hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide from the primary gas stream; a membrane fractionation step, to separate hydrogen sulfide from carbon dioxide and create a highly hydrogen-sulfide-concentrated fraction; and a sulfur-fixing step.

摘要: A process for treating a gas stream to remove or recover a condensable component. The process involves a condensation step and a membrane concentration step. The condensation step may be followed by the membrane step, or vice versa. The process can be designed to yield only two product streams: one, the condensed liquid, ready for use, reuse or discard, and two, a residue gas stream which im most cases will be clean enough for direct discharge or reuse. This result is achieved by recycling other streams within the process. Recovery of 90% or more of the condensable component can be achieved. The process offers substantial energy savings compared with condensation alone.

摘要: Described herein are membrane processes for separating CO2 from flue gas. An exemplary process involves passing a fluid stream including the flue gas across a membrane permeable to CO2 and H2O, removing treated gas from a feed side of the membrane that has less CO2 than the flue gas, and removing permeate from a permeate side of the membrane comprising CO2 and H2O. Suitably, the permeate is removed at a sub-atmospheric vacuum pressure. The permeate is then cooled to remove at least some of the H2O from the permeate and form a smaller volume of H2O-depleted, CO2 enriched permeate.

摘要: A process for treating an effluent gas stream arising from a manufacturing operation that produces an olefin or an olefin derivative to recover unreacted olefin. The process involves compressing the effluent gas stream, which comprises an olefin, a paraffin, and a third gas, to produce a first compressed stream, then directing the first compressed stream to a membrane separation pretreatment step. The permeate stream withdrawn from this step is enriched in olefin and is sent to a second compressor, which produces a second compressed stream that is then cooled and condensed. The condensation step produces a liquid condensate and an uncondensed gas stream. The uncondensed gas stream undergoes a second membrane separation step to produce another olefin-enriched permeate stream, which is recirculated within the process prior to the second compression step, and an olefin-depleted residue stream, which may be purged from the process.
