摘要: Embodiments of the present invention provide an approach for policy-driven (e.g., price-sensitive) scaling of computing resources in a networked computing environment (e.g., a cloud computing environment). In a typical embodiment, a workload request for a customer will be received and a set of computing resources available to process the workload request will be identified. It will then be determined whether the set of computing resources are sufficient to process the workload request. If the set of computing resources are under-allocated (or are over-allocated), a resource scaling policy may be accessed. The set of computing resources may then be scaled based on the resource scaling policy, so that the workload request can be efficiently processed while maintaining compliance with the resource scaling policy.

摘要: The invention is directed to increasing interoperability between web-based applications and hardware functions of a mobile device. The invention includes a thick-client hardware compatibility wrapper (HCW), which renders web-based applications and manages communication between hardware functionality and the web-based application. Specifically, the HCW monitors the web-based application and identifies commands to the hardware components of the mobile device. These commands are interpreted by the HCW, which then uses native calls to perform the hardware-specific activities. The HCW is also capable of calling functions on a webpage within the web-based application in response to query commands to the web-based application or in response to hardware events from the hardware components.

摘要: Approaches for expiring cached virtual content in a virtual universe are provided. In one approach, there is an expiration tool, including an identification component configured to identify virtual content associated with an avatar in the virtual universe, an analysis component configured to analyze a behavior of the avatar in a region of the virtual universe, the behavior indicating a likely future location of the avatar, and an expiration component configured to expire cached virtual content associated with the avatar based on the behavior of the avatar in the region of the virtual universe, wherein the cached virtual content associated with the avatar in the future location is maintained in the cache longer than cached virtual content associated with the avatar in another region of the virtual universe.

摘要: An invention for comparing utility and warranty of services in an information (IT) stack is provided. Embodiments of this invention are directed to comparing utility and warranty of services in an information technology (IT) stack comprising a plurality of layers, at least one of the plurality of layers having a set of services. In these embodiments, a utility and warranty tool provides this capability. Specifically, the utility and warranty tool comprises a determination component configured to determine, at each layer of the IT stack, a required utility and warranty (RUW) value for each of the set of services, wherein the RUW value represents a desired solution for implementing a business process; and determine, at each layer of the IT stack, an available utility and warranty (AUW) value for each of the set of services, wherein the AUW value is a measure of an ability of each of the set of services to satisfy the RUW at each layer of the IT stack. The utility and warranty tool further comprises a comparison component configured to compare the RUW value against the AUW value at each layer of the IT stack to determine whether each of the set of services satisfies the desired solution for implementing the business process.

摘要: A method of using a reconfigurable pet enrichment system to help pets fulfill their natural behaviors is provided. The system can be arranged to facilitate an environment that helps stimulate, entertain, and exercise a pet, and also provides a defensible space for napping, resting, or sleeping. The system can be constructed from two pieces of pliable material: a base component and a top-covering component attached to the base component by means of semi-permanent fasteners to create a variety of forms such as ripples, nooks and tunnels. The top component can contain several openings of different sizes. Openings appeal to a pet's predatory nature, as the openings provide a source of stimulation and interaction. The system may also be configured with a plurality of members attached via semi-permanent fasteners.

摘要: A system comprises a video hosting subsystem configured to access a database of video streams. The video hosting subsystem comprises a processor for processing data associated with the video streams, and memory for storing data. The processor is configured to receive a user request to access a selected primary video stream. The processor is further configured to identify other video streams captured at substantially the same time and location as the selected primary video stream and in which a person specified in the user request appears. The processor is configured to select, from the identified other video streams, an alternative video stream. The processor is further configured to provide the user with access to the selected primary video stream, together with an option to access the alternative video stream.

摘要: A method and apparatus for rebar cage construction is disclosed. A computerized controller operates an apparatus that automates parts of the rebar cage formation process. The computer controls motors for rotating the barrel and operating a wagon containing spiral coil wire. Initial rods are placed on a plurality of latitudinal conveyors. Dual cage ring assemblies are placed on the latitudinal conveyors, and notches or slots within the cage rings engage with the initial rods. The conveyors rotate the dual cage ring assemblies and a rod dispenser places a rod in additional notches. The rods, when completely installed, form a barrel structure. A wagon containing spiral coil wire is then moved longitudinally while the conveyors rotate to wrap the spiral coil wire around the barrel, to form a spiraled rebar cage.
