    Abstract: A molded planter includes a container and a separate rim insert for providing the appearance of a wide upper rim. The rim insert is configured to snap fit into the upper annular edge of the container. When the rim insert and container are assembled, the upper annular edge of the container extends to or above the upper surface of the rim insert such that there is no visible seam between the container and rim insert when the planter is viewed from the side.

    Abstract: A planter includes a concave container and a separate rim, both formed from a thermoplastic material. The container has a brim extending radially outward from an upper portion of the container. A vertical wall extends upward from the brim and has exterior flanges and grooves formed on its outer surface. The rim has a top wall with outer and inner side walls extending downward from its edges. Interior flanges and grooves formed on the inner surface of the outer rim wall are configured to engage the exterior flanges and grooves on the outer surface of the container vertical wall such that the rim can be secured onto the upper end of the container. The upper surface of the brim of the container comprises a stop inward of the vertical wall such that when the rim is advanced onto the upper end of the container, a lower portion of the inner rim wall confronts the stop to inhibit further advancement.

    Abstract: A process for manufacturing a fiberglass planter having a metal finish on its exterior surface includes the step of inserting a flexible mold into a hard mold. The flexible mold has an outer surface that fits the inner surface of the hard mold, and the flexible mold has an inner surface which defines a cavity for forming a planter. A layer of a metal powder is applied onto the inner surface of the flexible mold. A layer of polyester resin is then applied onto the metal powder layer formed on the flexible mold inner surface. Next, a fiberglass planter is formed on the polyester resin layer by applying alternating layers of polyester resin and fiberglass cloth and ending with an innermost layer of polyester resin. The layer of metal powder, the layer of polyester resin on the metal powder layer, and the fiberglass planter comprise a metal coated fiberglass planter. The flexible mold and the metal coated fiberglass planter are then separated from the hard mold, and the flexible mold is separated from the metal coated fiberglass planter.
