Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a network node to inter-connect with a first secondary node (SN) within a core network. The network node may be a master node and may serve a UE. The first SN may be a source SN. The network node may initiate a change from the first SN to a second SN, which may be a target SN. The network mode may determine data forwarding from the first SN to the second SN and may request, from the first SN, data forwarding intentions prior to initiating the change from the first SN to a second first SN to the second SN. The network node may send, to the first SN, data forwarding instructions (e.g., based, at least in part, on the data forwarding intentions of the first SN) and the data forwarding instructions may include a requirement for the first SN to follow the data forwarding instructions.

Abstract: A master node (MN) that determines a manner of a protocol data unit (PDU) session to be served, wherein the manner of the PDU session includes a split PDU session between the MN and a secondary node (SN) or a whole PDU session served by the MN, generates a request message to be transmitted to the SN to setup PDU session resources on the SN based on the manner of the PDU session is to be served and indicates, to the SN, the manner of the PDU session to be served. A SN that receives, from a MN, a request message to setup PDU session resources, determines a manner of the PDU session to be served, and sets up the PDU session resources on the SN, based on at least the manner of the PDU session to be served.

Abstract: Embodiments of a Next Generation Node B (gNB) are described herein. The gNB may be configured with logical nodes, including a gNB central unit (gNB-CU) and a gNB distributed unit (gNB-DU). The gNB-CU may include a gNB-CU control plane (gNB-CU-CP) for control-plane functionality, and a gNB-CU user plane (gNB-CU-UP) for user-plane functionality. The gNB may initiate an E1 interface setup procedure, a bearer context setup procedure, and a UE context setup procedure to establish a UE context that includes a signaling radio bearer (SRB) and a data radio bearer (DRB) configuration. The UE context setup request message may be configured to include quality-of-service parameters for the DRB configuration.

Abstract: Packet protection is described. Data of a group of packets is concatenated with a security key and a sequence number of the packet. A hash mark of the concatenated data is calculated and sent with data or control information in a packet. If each packet has reserved bits, at least some of the packets each has data, a least a portion of the hash mark, and a header having: a first bit that indicates if the hash mark is present, and a second bit that indicates if the packet is used to determine the hash mark. Otherwise, a separate control packet is sent that contains the hash mark, a first sequence number of the group of packets, and a PDU type indicating that the control packet is an integrity protection packet for the group of PDCP packets.

Abstract: Systems and methods of setting up an E1 interface for a gNB are described. A transmitting entity of the gNB-CU-CP and gNB-CU-UP initiates the first TNL association between the gNB-CU-CP and gNB-CU-UP, and is also limited to initiating the E1 Setup procedure. The transmitting entity sends an E1 SETUP REQUEST message to set up the E1 interface. Afterwards, a message is received from the receiving entity. The transmitting entity determines that the setup of the E1 interface is successful if the message contains IEs of an E1 SETUP RESPONSE message. The types of IEs include a message type IE and a name of the transmitting entity.

Abstract: An apparatus of a RAN node in which flexible feedback for user data transferred between RAN nodes is described. The DL PDCP PDUs to be delivered to a UE is transmitted over an Xn or X2 interface between RAN and NG-RAN nodes, respectively. Feedback received allows transmitting RAN node to control downlink user data flow. The feedback contains a DDDS frame that includes a highest transmitted and delivered PDCP SN indicator parameter that respectively indicates whether a highest transmitted and successfully delivered PDCP PDU is present in the DDDS message and a highest transmitted and successfully delivered PDCP SN PDU parameter that provides feedback respectively about a transmitted status of the PDU sequence and an in-sequence delivery status of the PDUs to the UE. Buffered PDUs reported by the DDDS message are removed from memory as transmitted or successfully delivered PDUs.

Abstract: Techniques to configure a user equipment (UE) for a multi-connectivity handover with a source base station (SBS) and a target base station (TBS) include encoding a measurement report for transmission to the SBS. The measurement report is triggered based on a measurement event configured by the SBS. Radio resource control (RRC) signaling from the SBS is decoded, the RRC signaling including a handover command in response to the measurement report. The handover command includes an indication for multi-connectivity support by the SBS and the TBS during the handover. A first protocol stack associated with the SBS and a second protocol stack associated with the TBS are configured at the UE. A packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) protocol data unit (PDU) received at the UE during the handover is processed using the first protocol stack or the second protocol stack.

The apparatus can include a memory to store the RRC resume request at the gNB and the UE context request at the last serving gNB.
