摘要: The invention relates to a respiratory motion detection apparatus (1) for detecting respiratory motion of a person. An illuminator (3) illuminates the person (2) with an illumination pattern (11), and a detector (4) detects the illumination pattern (11) on the person (2) over time. A temporal respiratory motion signal being indicative of the respiratory motion of the person (2) is determined from the detected illumination pattern by a respiratory motion signal determination unit (5). The illumination pattern deforms significantly with slight movements of the person. Thus, since the respiratory motion signal determination unit (5) is adapted to determine the temporal respiratory motion signal from the detected illumination pattern, even slight respiratory movements of the person can be determined. The sensitivity of detecting respiratory movements of a person can therefore be improved.

摘要: The location of a face is detected from data about a scene. A 3D surface model from is obtained from measurements of the scene. A 2D angle data image is generated from the 3D surface model. The angle data image is generated for a virtual lighting direction, the image representing angles between a ray directions from a virtual light source direction and normal to the 3D surface. A 2D face location algorithm is applied to each of the respective 2D images. In an embodiment respective 2D angle data images for a plurality of virtual lighting directions are generated and face locations detected from the respective 2D images are fused.

摘要: The invention relates to a detection system for determining data embedded into the light output of a light source in a form of a repeating sequence of N symbols. The detection system includes a camera and a processing unit. The camera is configured to acquire a series of images of the scene via specific open/closure patterns of the shutter. The processing unit is configured to process the acquired series of images to determine the repeating sequence of N symbols. By carefully triggering when a shutter of the camera is open to capture the different symbols of the encoded light within each frame time of a camera, a conventional camera with a relatively long frame time may be employed. Therefore, the techniques presented herein are suitable for detecting the invisible “high frequency” coded light while using less expensive cameras as those used in the prior art.

The optimization process may be conducted in a walking type optimization process, e.g. by running an optimization process every time a predetermined number of tracks has been recorded. The apparatus being capable of recording optical effects on a recordable medium and reading the recorded effects. The apparatus includes means for determining average transition shifts of leading and/or trailing edges in the read signal. At least one of the one or more write parameters in the write strategy is optimized in a feed-forward optimization process taking the average transition shifts into account. 摘要: A phase change medium, a device and a method for driving a phase change medium are proposed that allow writing at high speed and erasing at low speed. The proposed low-speed erasing option must be seen as a formatting option that can be applied to the whole medium (or to part of the medium) so as to put the medium (or part of the medium) back to a virgin state. With the invention, direct overwriting of data is not possible: the data have first to be erased at low speed before new data can be written on the medium at high speed. According to the invention, the medium is rotated at a linear velocity that depends on the selected operating mode, the linear velocity applied in the writing mode being much higher than said maximum crystalline velocity, and the linear velocity applied in said erasing mode being equal to or lower than said maximum crystalline velocity. Application: DVD+R high-speed.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method and a corresponding device for recording data in the form of marks and for erasing recorded marks in an information layer of a record carrier by irradiating the information layer by means of a pulsed radiation beam, a recorded mark being erased by a sequence of erase pulses (31, 32), said information layer having a phase reversibly changeable between a crystalline phase and an amorphous phase. In order to achieve a significant reduction in power consumption, which is at least important for portable optical drives such as an SFFO drive, it is proposed according to the present invention that at least one of the erase pulses in said sequence of erase pulses (31, 32) has an erase power level which is decreasing with time. The present invention also relates to a method and a device for reading information from a record carrier.
