The media gateway may decode the encoded broadcast multimedia transport stream to extract broadcast multimedia content carried therein based on determination of capabilities of one or more client devices used in playback of the content. The encoded local multimedia transport stream may be generated based on local multimedia content generated and/or captured via one or more client devices. The buffering duration of the received encoded broadcast multimedia transport stream may be adaptively determined, to ensure that the encoded local multimedia transport stream and the encoded broadcast multimedia transport stream are synchronized when they are combined.

A video reception device, comprising a single video decoder, may dynamically allocate media-processing resources based on QoS parameters associated with the received time-sensitive and non-time-sensitive video streams. The single video decoder is utilized to decode the content of the received time-sensitive and non-time-sensitive video streams for display. The QoS parameters associated with the received time-sensitive and non-time-sensitive video streams are mapped to corresponding media-processing resource requirements at the video reception device. The video reception device performs resource allocation for the received time-sensitive and non-time-sensitive video streams based on the corresponding media-processing resource requirements. Multi-dimensional resources allocation metrics are selected or formed from the corresponding associated QoS parameters for media-processing resource allocation. The video reception device starts resource allocation for the received time-sensitive video streams. Un-used portions of the allocated media-processing resources to the received time-sensitive video streams are re-allocated to process the received non-time-sensitive video streams.

The MG may adaptively control and/or configure latency associated with handling and/or communication of data by the media gateway's client device during the video conference call. The adaptive latency control and/or configuration may be based on determination of end-to-end latency associated with exchange of data during the video conference call.

Aspects of one method may include generating motion vectors (MVs) for video pictures at each level of a hierarchical motion estimation process, where each level may use different resolution video pictures. The MVs may be smooth filtered at each level to reduce or remove spurious MVs. The smooth filtering may comprise scalar median filtering and/or vector median filtering. The smooth filtering may receive as inputs a plurality of MVs, for example, the MV being filtered and eight MVs from the surrounding video blocks. The vector costs of the nine MVs may be compared to a threshold vector cost, and those MVs with costs above the threshold value may be discarded. The threshold value may be dynamically changed based on, for example, content of the video pictures and/or to adjust a window size of the smoothing filter.

The captured 2D video and the captured depth information at the different view angles are compressed utilizing MVC. The compressed 2D monoscopic video and the compressed depth information at the different view angles are transcoded into a Blu-ray left view stream and a right Blu-ray right view stream, respectively, for storage. Depending on display configuration, the stored Blu-ray left view stream and the stored right Blu-ray right view stream are decoded utilizing MVC to compose a single view 3D video and/or a multi-view 3D video for 3D video rendering.

The captured 2D images and the captured corresponding depth information are utilized to determine an image mapping function based on view angles. The captured 2D images and the captured corresponding depth information may be modified or adjusted to a given view angle through the determined image mapping function to compose a corresponding 3D image for the given view angle. Regression analysis may be performed to determine the image mapping function by fitting the captured 2D images and the captured corresponding depth information to known view angles of the monoscopic video camera array. 2D image data and corresponding depth information are determined for the given view angle utilizing the determined image mapping function so as to compose corresponding 2D and/or 3D images/video for the given view angle.
