摘要: A process for making a cement and non-asbestos fiber mat on a Hatschek machine having a cylinder vat, a cylinder in the cylinder vat, and a porous surface on the cylinder on which the mat is formed and through which drainage water passes including the steps of introducing a slurry of cement and non-asbestos fibers and clay and poly(ethylene oxide) and water into the cylinder vat, and maintaining a lesser portion of the porous surface in engagement with the cement and non-asbestos slurry than the portion of the surface which is otherwise normally engaged by a cement and asbestos slurry of the same depth to thereby form the cement and non-asbestos fiber mat on the lesser portion of the porous surface and thus provide a lesser area for the slurry to drain than the area through which a cement and asbestos slurry drains, the poly(ethylene oxide) and clay causing the drainage water to be substantially clear and not to have any appreciable amount of cement fines, the cement and non-asbestos fiber mat containing Portland cement binder in the amount of between about 40% and 80% by weight, natural and/or synthetic fibers in an amount of between about 1% and 15% by weight, clay in an amount of between about 2% and 15% by weight, and poly(ethylene oxide) homopolymer in an amount of between about 0.03% and 0.5% by weight. The product may also contain silica and/or filler in an amount of between 10% and 40% by weight. The silica is generally used in a product which is to be autoclaved. The filler may be waste fiber-cement product or inert filler material.

摘要: A method is provided for deodorizing and absorbing the excreta from animals, and particularly from pet animals. The method utilizes dried citrus pulp or sugar beet pulp which both coats the animal feces and absorbs urine. The residual acids and sugars left in the dried pulp serve to neutralize the odor of the excreta.

摘要: A method and apparatus for power conservation is provided for a multi-mode wireless communication device (100) capable of operating in a plurality of networks, each of the plurality of networks having a network signal with predetermined spectral characteristics. The wireless communication device (100) includes a variable bandwidth signal detector (140), a threshold detector (145), and a controller (120). The variable bandwidth signal detector (140) receives radio frequency (RF) signals and defines a detection bandwidth for signal detection. The threshold detector (145) is coupled to the variable bandwidth signal detector (140) and detects a network signal within the RF signals in response to determining whether a signal is present within the detection bandwidth having a signal strength greater than a predetermined signal strength. The controller (120) is coupled to the variable bandwidth signal detector (140) and the threshold detector (145) and offsets a center of the detection bandwidth of the variable bandwidth signal detector (140) in response to the predetermined spectral characteristics of the network signal.

摘要: A method (300) and device (400) for augmenting the useful life of an energy storage device in a portable electronic device is disclosed. The method (300) can include the steps of: providing (315) a power module comprising a fuel cell and a battery; determining (310) relative humidity; and controlling (315) the operations of the power module in response to the determined relative humidity. Advantageously, the method (300) and device (400) can augment and prolong the useful life of an energy storage device in a portable electronic device, with minimal power drain.

摘要: A display representing a tree, such as a Christmas tree, has a trunk made of a hollow tube and held by a base in substantially vertical position. A liquid, such as water, is placed in the tube and an air supply in or near the bottom of the tube generates bubbles that rise through the tube. The tube and bubbles therein are preferably illuminated to add to the effectiveness of the display. Illumination can be provided by LED's which avoid the heat of incandescent lamps. Branches are secured to the trunk tube and extend outwardly therefrom to support a foliage garland to provide tree foliage and give the display the appearance of a tree. The tree can be provided as a separate trunk tube portion, base, and foliage garland so the parts can be packed and shipped without the base attached to the tube.
