Abstract:
A telecommunication system and method for communicating communication signals between various stations over a selected carrier medium. An improved encoder and method is provided for compressing a communication signal into a selectively formatted encoded signal to facilitate its transmission over the selected carrier medium. The method is particularly useful for encoding fax and modem data signals which do not exhibit the harmonics of a voice signal. A decoder and method for reconstruction of the encoded signal are also provided.

Abstract:
An electronic dartboard which includes a circuit board having a plurality of contacts and a dart-engaging target assembly mounted in front of the circuit board. The target assembly has a plurality of individual scoring blocks. Each block has at least one stem rearwardly protruding towards the circuit board. A conductor point and a buffer ring are provided at the back end of the stem. The buffer ring spaces the conductor point from the contact point. When a dart is thrown on the dartboard the buffer ring deforms engaging the conductor point with the contact point.
Abstract:
A method for coding speech at low bit rates is disclosed. As compared to the well known stochastic coding method, the method of the present invention requires substantially less computational resources. The reduction of required resources is achieved by utilizing a set of code sequences in which each code sequence is related to the previous code sequence. For example, each succeeding code sequence may be derived from the previous code sequence by removing one or more elements from the beginning of the previous sequence, and adding one or more elements to the end of the previous sequence.
Abstract:
Embodiments herein provide systems and methods tracking the weight of an individual situated on a furnishing such as a chair or bed. One method generally includes receiving weight data at a weight sensor that is situated to recognize a change in weight on the furnishing, determining that a mobile device of the individual is proximately located to the weight sensor, and confirming by the mobile device that the change in weight is related to the individual.

Embodiments herein provide systems and methods tracking the weight of an individual situated on a furnishing such as a chair or bed. One method generally includes receiving weight data at a weight sensor that is situated to recognize a change in weight on the furnishing, confirming that a fitness device is proximately located to the weight sensor, and transmitting the received weight data to a hosted service.
Abstract:
A technique is provided for a seamless and transparent handoff from a user's mobile device to the user's stationary terminal of a network address of a remote device for the purpose of establishing a direct communication channel between the stationary terminal and a remote device, where the remote device first contacted the user's mobile device to initiate communications with the users.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for processing speech in a wireless communication system uses CELP speech encoded signals. A decoder receives encoded speech including a code index, a code index gain, a pitch lag, a pitch gain, and a line spectral pair (LSP) index. An innovation codevector and an adaptive codevector are determined and scaled. An excitation sequence is generated. Reconstructed speech is then output based on the excitation sequence and LSP index.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for processing speech in a wireless communication system uses CELP speech encoded signals. A speech input receives samples of a speech signal and a codebook analysis block for selects an index of a code from at least one of a plurality of codebooks. A weighted synthesis filter is used in the generation of a prediction error between a predicted current sample and a current sample of the speech samples. The index is transmitted to the receiver to enable reconstruction of the speech signal at the receiver.

A method for processing speech in a spread spectrum communication system uses CELP speech encoded signals. A speech input receives samples of a speech signal and a codebook analysis block for selects an index of a code from each of a plurality of codebooks. A weighted synthesis filter is used in the generation of a prediction error between a predicted current sample and a current sample of the speech samples. The index is transmitted to the receiver to enable reconstruction of the speech signal at the receiver.
