摘要:
Methods and devices for maintaining a space-occupying device in a fixed relationship relative to a patient's stomach by manipulation of the stomach. In one variation, two or more regions of the stomach wall are brought into approximation with one another and secured together in a manner that secures a space-occupying device within the stomach of the patient. In another variation, two or more regions of the stomach wall are wrapped around a space-occupying device to maintain the position of the space-occupying device relative to the stomach wall. In another variation, a system having a space-occupying member and a locking member capable holding the space-occupying member against the inner wall of the stomach are provided. In a further variation, a pouch is created within the stomach that receives and retains a space-occupying device.

Methods and devices for providing a minimally-invasive placement of a mechanical structure for reducing the volume of a hollow body organ. Anchors may be secured within the hollow body organ and then cinched together using a tensioning member to form a stricture within the hollow body organ. In another embodiment a tensioning member may be threaded along the hollow body organ and then cinched to reduce the volume. The strictures may be placed anywhere within the hollow body organ, and more than one stricture may be formed within the hollow body organ.

Methods and devices for providing a minimally-invasive placement of a mechanical structure for reducing the volume of a hollow body organ. Intragastric bands may be secured within the hollow body organ and then reduced in diameter to form a stricture within the hollow body organ. The strictures may be placed anywhere within the hollow body organ, and more than one stricture may be formed within the hollow body organ.

The present invention relates to a device (and corresponding method) that protects (e.g., shields and/or retracts) exiting and/or descending nerve (e.g., nerve root). This may be carried out in a controlled, unobtrusive manner during, for example, Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (“TLIF”), Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (“PLIF”), or Minimally Invasive Surgery (“MIS”) spinal procedures. Further, the device may be form-fit to one or more particular ones of the following: nerve, pedicle, annulus, vertebral body, interbody device.

Gastric space occupying devices are provided that include a stent configured for deployment in the gastrointestinal tract of a patient, and in particular, for deployment in the esophagus or the stomach. Secured to the stent is an expandable member that is adapted to reside within the patient's stomach. When expanded, the expandable member occupies a predefined volume within the patient's stomach and is further tethered to the deployed stent, thereby retaining or anchoring the expandable member within the stomach. Methods and systems for the deploying the space occupying devices are also provided.

The invention provides a stabilizer having a suction foot to stabilize a patient's heart. One embodiment of the stabilizer has two suction feet, each having two chambers with different volumes. A shoulder having a suction manifold is formed with an inner surface of at least one chamber so as to enhance the preferential draw of medial tissue. The volumes of the chambers and the orifices and suction manifold are configured to produce vacuum independence between the chambers and between the suction feet.
