Abstract: An approach is provided for suppressing false positive reports of detectable road events. For example, the approach involves receiving a detection of a roadwork zone and a time-to-live period associated with the roadwork zone. The approach also involves receiving a subsequent observation of the roadwork zone. The subsequent observation is generated based on sensor data captured by at least one sensor associated with at least one vehicle traveling within proximity of the roadwork zone. The approach further involves classifying the subsequent observation as a false positive observation based on determining that the subsequent observation is created after the time-to-live period. The approach further involves initiating a blacklisting of the roadwork zone as a false positive roadwork zone based on the false positive observation. The approach further involves providing the blacklisting as an output.

Abstract: An approach is provided for traffic data blending based on road segment travel time reliability during traffic prediction. The approach involves, for instance, retrieving real-time traffic information and/or historical traffic information for each road segment within a geographic area. The approach also involves aggregating traffic flow speed data in the real-time traffic information to compute traffic pattern data for each road segment. The traffic pattern data includes static speed data of each said road segment. The approach further involves aggregating traffic flow speed data in the historical traffic information to compute travel time reliability index metric(s) for each said road segment. The approach further involves determining, based on the travel time reliability index metric(s), to use the traffic pattern data, a mean, or a percentile of a road segment travel time distribution in the historical traffic information for traffic prediction associated with each said road segment.

Abstract: An approach is provided for providing hybrid traffic incident identification. The approach, for example, involves processing traffic incident information received from at least one incident source to classify the traffic incident information as either well-formatted data (matching at least one previously stored incident code) or non-well-formatted data (not matching the previously stored incident code). The approach also involves converting the well-formatted data to an incident reporting format to generate a first output portion. The approach further involves extracting incident content from the non-well-formatted data. The extracted incident content represents the traffic incident information based on the at least one previously stored incident code. The approach further involves converting the extracted incident content to the incident reporting format to generate a second output portion. The approach further involves providing the first output portion and/or the second output portion as a hybrid incident output.

Abstract: A system, a method, and a computer program product may be provided for generating traffic congestion estimation data of one or more lanes in a region. A system may include a memory configured to store computer program code and a processor configured to execute the computer program code to obtain image data associated with the region. The processor may be configured to determine a count of one or more first movable objects in one or lanes, based on image data, calculate a lane object static capacity of the one or more lanes, based on one or more map free flow or speed limit attributes associated with the one or more lanes and generate the traffic congestion estimation data based on count of first movable objects in the one or more lanes, the moving speed of movable objects crossing multiple image frames, the lane object static capacity of lanes.

Abstract: A method for improved traffic congestion estimation is provided using signal phase and timing data from traffic signals at intersections and probe data from vehicles traversing said intersections. An example method may include: identifying each of a plurality of paths through an intersection; identifying signal phase and timing data for each traffic light associated with each path through the intersection; receiving probe data for vehicles approaching or traversing the intersection; estimating a number of vehicles failing to traverse the intersection along a path through the intersection; estimating a congestion status of the path through the intersection based on the number of vehicles failing to traverse the intersection; and causing the congestion status to be provided to permit updating of a map to reflect the congestion status.
