Abstract:
A method to select a print mode in which a first image comprising a plurality of pixels is received. Color depth for at least a subset of the plurality of pixels of the first image is determined. A print mode is selected from a plurality of print modes using at least the determined color depth.
Abstract:
A printer control section arranged to control a printhead, is operable to cause the printhead to: perform a plurality of passes over a swath of a print medium, the plurality of passes including first and second treatment passes; apply treatment to the print medium in each of the treatment passes, the treatment in each treatment pass being applied according to a respective treatment mask, wherein each treatment mask indicates a corresponding set of pixels to which the treatment may be applied in a pass to which the treatment mask is applied, the treatment mask having a weight indicative of the proportion of pixels in the corresponding set of pixels, and the treatment masks of the first and second passes are such that a weight of the first treatment mask is different from a weight of the second treatment mask.
Abstract:
Examples of the method may comprise providing a print media under a printhead of the printing system, obtaining an actual height profile signal, related to a height between the printhead and the print media, based on measurements taken at a plurality of positions across the width of the media during at least one pass, comparing said actual height profile signal to an earlier height profile signal, obtained based on measurements taken at said plurality of positions across the width of the media during at least one earlier pass on the same print media, and determining a media malfunction condition based on said comparison.
Abstract:
A method to control a printer carriage in which the printer carriage is controlled to move along a first axis at a first predetermined speed when a printhead, installed on the printer carriage, is ejecting printing fluid in a print zone. The printer carriage is moveable bidirectionally along the first axis in swaths to enable the printhead to print in the print zone. The printer carriage is also controlled to move along the first axis at a second predetermined speed, higher than the first predetermined speed, when the printhead is not ejecting printing fluid in the print zone.
Abstract:
Operation of a printer for printing an image is described herein. It is determined whether ejection of imaging droplets of a print fluid via a set of nozzles for printing an outstanding image portion is sufficient for preventing clogging of the set of nozzles. Upon determining that ejection of imaging droplets for printing the outstanding image portion is sufficient for preventing clogging of the set of nozzles, printing is performed by ejecting only imaging droplets of the print fluid via the set of nozzles. Upon determining that ejection of imaging droplets for printing the outstanding image portion is not sufficient for preventing clogging of the set of nozzles, a servicing procedure is to be executed of to eject purging droplets of the print fluid via the set of nozzles.
Abstract:
In the field of printing technology, non impact printing methods such as inkjet printing may be used to deposit an ink composition onto print media to form an image. An ink composition typically comprises a colourant material and a vehicle, such as an aqueous solution, for delivering the colourant material to the print media. A wide range of such ink compositions is known in the industry. It is also known to use various pre-treatment compositions in combination with ink compositions in order to enhance the quality of a final image. Pre-treatment compositions are often substantially colourless liquid compositions that interact with elements of the ink composition to fix colourant to the print media. Pre-treatment compositions may help to improve image quality for example by reducing image bleeding, edge roughness and other image quality issues.
Abstract:
A printing system with adaptive printhead temperature control, comprises a least one printhead for inkjet printing; heating means to heat said printhead or ink in said printhead to a predetermined temperature range; and control means to analyze content information of a print job to be printed, wherein said control means sets said predetermined temperature range and sets a heating power of said heating means at a given position of said printhead in accordance with content information relating to an entire print page of said print job, or a plurality of print pages of said print job.

Abstract:
According to one example, there is provided a method of controlling a printing system. The method comprises: obtaining a print job to print on a substrate; obtaining a value of a factor material to an undesirable condition occurring; determining a quantity of printing fluid to be deposited on a substrate when printing a portion of the print job; determining, based on the obtained value and the determined quantity of printing fluid to be deposited, whether the undesirable condition is likely to occur whilst printing the portion of the print job; and temporarily reducing the throughput of the printing system whilst printing the portion of the print job where it is determined that the undesirable condition is likely to occur whilst printing the portion of the print job.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a device, method and program, wherein the method comprises detecting a power increase, during which power usage increases by at least a threshold amount over an expected power usage during movement of a printer carriage over a print medium along a scan axis. The increase method further comprises detecting a location of the printer carriage at a time of the detected power usage increase and determining, based on the detected location of the printer carriage, whether the print medium is damaged.
