    Abstract: A method for inter-color residual prediction using an improved scaling parameter coding is disclosed. In one embodiment, a scaling parameter is used for inter-color residual prediction between a first color component and a second color component. The scaling parameter is coded using context-based coding having the same number of context models as the longest binary code for the absolute values of the scaling parameter. For example, when the first scaling parameter is selected from a group consisting of 8, 4, 2, 1, 0, −1, −2 −4 and −8, the absolute values of the scaling parameter can be represented by binary codes with the longest binary code having 4 bits. The context-based coding for the absolute scaling parameter also uses 4 context models. In a second embodiment, the scaling parameter is coded using binary codes by assigning a shorter binary code to a larger non-zero scaling parameter.

    Abstract: A method of MVP (motion vector prediction) for video coding with adaptive motion vector resolution is disclosed. According to the present invention, the MVP coding is applied to the current MV or the current MV is stored depending on the current MV resolution, the reference MV resolution, or both the current MV resolution and the reference MV resolution. In one embodiment, when the current MV resolution corresponds to integer pixel resolution, MVP coding is then applied to the current MV using a modified temporal MV as a motion vector predictor for the current MV, where the modified temporal MV is generated by right-shifting the temporal MV. In another embodiment, when the current MV resolution corresponds to integer pixel resolution, the current MV is left-shifted before it is stored in a memory.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for low-latency illumination compensation in a three-dimensional (3D) and multi-view coding system are disclosed. According to the present invention, the encoder determines whether to enable or disable the illumination compensation for the current picture or slice based on a condition related to statistic associated with a selected reference picture or slice respectively, or related to high-level coding information associated with the current picture or slice respectively. The high-level coding information associated with the current picture or slice excludes any information related to pixel values of the current picture or slice respectively. The illumination compensation is them applied according to the decision made by the encoder. A similar low-latency method is also applied for depth lookup table (DLT) based coding.

    Abstract: A method for a three-dimensional encoding or decoding system incorporating restricted sub-PU level prediction is disclosed. In one embodiment, the sub-PU level prediction associated with inter-view motion prediction or view synthesis prediction is restricted to the uni-prediction. In another embodiment, the sub-PU partition associated with inter-view motion prediction or view synthesis prediction is disabled if the sub-PU partition would result in sub-PU size smaller than the minimum PU split size or the PU belongs to a restricted partition group. The minimum PU split size may correspond to 8×8. The restricted partition group may correspond to one or more asymmetric motion partition (AMP) modes.

    Abstract: Multi-view video encoding using early Merge mode decision and/or early CU split termination is disclosed. The present invention encodes a current coding block using the Merge/Skip mode without evaluating coding performance for at least one of Inter modes and Intra modes if the coding conditions associated with the current coding block and a neighboring block set of the current coding block are asserted. The coding conditions may correspond to whether the coding performance of the Skip mode is better than the coding performance of 2N×2N Merge mode for the current coding block and whether all blocks in the neighboring block set select the Merge mode or the Skip mode. Similarly, the process of splitting the current coding block into smaller coding blocks can be terminated without evaluating coding performance associated with the smaller coding blocks from splitting the current coding block if some coding conditions are asserted.
