    Abstract: A method of video coding using the palette coding mode with reduced complexity by sharing context(s) between context-based entropy coding of syntax element for the last run type mode and context-based entropy coding of syntax element for the run type mode is disclosed. A method with reduced complexity for binarization of the syntax element associated with the number of palette indices of the current block is disclosed, where Rice parameter is derived for the number of palette indices without the need for a division or table lookup operation. In another method, the syntax element to specify whether transpose process is applied to associated palette indices of the current block is signalled in the bitstream for the current block in a location after the syntax element to specify a last run type mode for the current block.

    Abstract: A method for a three-dimensional encoding or decoding system incorporating sub-block based inter-view motion prediction is disclosed. The system utilizes motion or disparity parameters associated with reference sub-blocks in a reference picture of a reference view corresponding to the texture sub-PCU split from a current texture PU (prediction unit) to predict the motion or disparity parameters of the current texture PU. Candidate motion or disparity parameters for the current texture PU may comprise candidate motion or disparity parameters derived for all texture sub-PUs from splitting the current texture PU. The candidate motion or disparity parameters for the current texture PU can be used as a sub-block-based inter-view Merge candidate for the current texture PU in Merge mode. The sub-block-based inter-view Merge candidate can be inserted into a first position of a candidate list.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for coding a depth block in three-dimensional video coding are disclosed. Embodiments of the present invention divide a depth block into depth sub-blocks and determine default motion parameters. For each depth sub-block, the motion parameters of a co-located texture block covering the center sample of the depth sub-block are determined. If the motion parameters are available, the motion parameters are assigned as inherited motion parameters for the depth sub-block. If the motion parameters are unavailable, the default motion parameters are assigned as inherited motion parameters for the depth sub-block. The depth sub-block is then encoded or decoded using the inherited motion parameters or a motion candidate selected from a motion candidate set including the inherited motion parameters. The depth block may correspond to a depth prediction unit (PU) and the depth sub-block corresponds to a depth sub-PU.

    Abstract: A method of depth map coding for a three-dimensional video coding system incorporating consistent texture merging candidate is disclosed. According to the first embodiment, the current depth block will only inherit the motion information of the collocated texture block if one reference depth picture has the same POC (picture order count) and ViewId (view identifier) as the reference texture picture of the collocated texture block. In another embodiment, the encoder assigns the same total number of reference pictures for both the depth component and the collocated texture component for each reference list. Furthermore, the POC (picture order count) and the ViewId (view identifier) for both the depth image unit and the texture image unit are assigned to be the same for each reference list and for each reference picture.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for depth lookup table (DLT) signaling in a three-dimensional and multi-view coding system. The method identifies one or more pictures to be processed. If one or more pictures contain depth data, then the method determines the DLT associated with said one or more pictures, applies predictive coding to the DLT based on the previous DLT, includes syntax related to the DLT in the PPS, and includes first bit-depth information related to first depth samples of the DLT in the PPS. The first bit-depth information is consistent with second bit depth information signaled in a sequence level. The method further signals the PPS in a video bitstream for a sequence including said one or more pictures. A circuit is also provided that embodies circuitry configured to carry out the operations specified above.

    Abstract: A method of improved texture-partition-dependent depth partition is disclosed. First, the available texture partitions for a collocated texture block are classified into two or more groups, and a set of candidate depth partitions is determined for each group. In one embodiment, at least one set of the candidate depth partitions contain more than one candidate depth partition and less than all candidate depth partitions. In another embodiment, the collocated texture blocks are classified into two groups, and one of the two groups includes the N×N texture partition and at least another texture partition. In yet another embodiment, the collocated texture blocks are classified into three groups or more. A current depth partition for the current depth block is then selected from a corresponding set of candidate depth partitions according to a corresponding group that a current texture partition associated with the collocated texture block belongs.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for encoding and decoding depth lookup table (DLT) using a constrained table value range are disclosed. For a decoder, a constrained table value range from a minimum table value to a maximum table value of the DLT is decoded from the coded DLT information. Bit map values for depth values in a depth range from (the minimum table value+1) to (the maximum table value−1) are then decoded. The bit map values indicate whether the depth values are in the DLT respectively. The DLT for the current depth map can be reconstructed based on the constrained table value range and the bit map values for the depth values in the depth range. For an encoder, a constrained table value range from a minimum table value to a maximum table value of the DLT is determined and encoded the DLT into coded DLT information.
