摘要： A speedometer for a vehicle includes a display part, formed into a circular shape and that includes a movable portion rotatable about a center thereof, the movable portion having an indication design, a pointer that rotates to indicate the indication design for displaying the running speed of the vehicle. During a normal driving, the pointer rotates to indicate a position on the indication design of the movable portion that corresponds to a current running speed of the vehicle while the movable portion is fixed. During a driving with an adaptive cruse control system, the movable portion rotates so that the pointer indicates a position on the indication design of the movable portion that corresponds to the current running speed of the vehicle while the pointer is fixed.

The indicating needle includes a needle body and a needle base. The base has an entrance surface and a reflection surface. A luminance control unit controls luminance of the light sources in response to turning of the indicating needle such that the luminance is lowest when a light emitted perpendicularly from a center of an emitting surface of the light source is reflected off a reflection surface's region which a longitudinal central line of the needle body intersects with, and that the luminance gradually increases as the light emitted by the light source from the center of the emitting surface thereof is reflected off a region that is more distant from the region which the longitudinal central line of the needle body intersects with.

When the control device determines that the vehicle engine is in an initial starting step, the control device changes the display portion in one of the positive and negative modes from a neutral contrast state.

In particular, through the down operation, by a link mechanism, a bottom end of the movable member is gradually moved upward by following the inner wall 1a1 of the housing 1a. Therefore, though the movable member 3′ stands up along the inner wall 1a1 of the housing 1a when the head-up display apparatus is in use, the movable member 3′ never interferes with the inner wall 1a1 through the up/down operation.
