    摘要: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to optical multiprocessing buses. In one embodiment, an optical broadcast bus includes a repeater, a fan-in bus optically coupled to a number of nodes and the repeater, and a fan-out bus optically coupled to the nodes and the repeater. The fan-in bus is configured to receive optical signals from each node and transmit the optical signals to the repeater, which regenerates the optical signals. The fan-out bus is configured to receive the regenerated optical signals output from the repeater and distribute the regenerated optical signals to the nodes. The repeater can also serve as an arbiter by granting one node at a time access to the fan-in bus.

    摘要: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to beamsplitters that include optical elements to correct for beam offset. In one embodiment, a beamsplitter includes a first plate having two approximately parallel and opposing planar surfaces and a partially reflective layer coating one of the planar surfaces, and a compensator plate having two approximately parallel and opposing planar surfaces. The compensator plate is positioned so that an incident beam of light passing through the compensator plate acquires a first beam offset. Subsequently, the incident beam of light with the first beam offset passing through the first plate is split into a reflected beam and a transmitted beam by the partially reflective layer where the transmitted beam has a second beam offset that substantially cancels the first beam offset such that the transmitted beam is approximately parallel to and aligned with the incident beam.

    摘要: Provided is a curved light guide screen. A plurality of vertically aligned light guides are arranged into light guide magnifying layers. Spacers are disposed between any two adjacent light guide magnifying layers, proximate to the magnifying output ends, to position the magnifying layers and define an orientation for the magnifying output ends. A curved viewing surface is defined having a concave, convex or complex curvature shape depending on the size, shape and positioning of the spacers. The spacers may have a variety of shapes, and may be flexible, semi-rigid or rigid. A case houses the light guide magnifying layers and spacers, as well as an image source and associated lenses. A related method of making a curved light guide screen is also provided.

    摘要: A vibrating tip surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) apparatus, system and method employ a nano-needle configured to vibrate. The apparatus includes the nano-needle with a substantially sharp tip at a free end opposite an end attached to a substrate. The tip is configured to adsorb an analyte. The apparatus further includes a vibration source configured to provide an alternating current (AC) electric field that induces a vibration of the free end and the tip of the nano-needle. Vibration of the nano-needle under the influence of the AC electric field facilitates detection of a Raman scattering signal from the analyte adsorbed on the nano-needle tip. The system further includes a synchronous detector configured to be gated cooperatively with the vibration of the nano-needle. The method includes inducing the vibration, illuminating the vibrating tip to produce a Raman signal, and detecting the Raman signal using the detector.
