    Abstract: Technologies for pedometric sensing in footwear include a step tracker compute device. The step tracker compute device is to receive acceleration data indicative of movement of a foot of a user, generate energy contour data indicative of energy levels over time, based on the received acceleration data, determine dynamic energy thresholds indicative of peaks in the energy contour data, and detect steps of the user based on the dynamic energy thresholds and the energy contour data to generate step data.     Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide techniques and configurations for a signal transmission for an apparatus, such as a mobile or wearable device, based on sensor fail-safety. In one instance, the apparatus may comprise a transmitter to transmit a communication signal of the apparatus at a first power level, a sensor to monitor a process that is external to the apparatus and to provide an output signal indicating a change in a state of the process, and a control module communicatively coupled with the sensor and transmitter, to determine whether the output signal provided by the sensor has indicated a change in the external process over a threshold time period, and, based on a result of this determination, cause the transmitter to switch the transmission from the first power level to a second power level that is lower than the first power level. A system for initiating a connection session includes sensor array; a gesture detection circuit communicatively coupled to the sensor array, the gesture detection circuit to: detect an air gesture performed by a user of the system based on data from the sensor array; and determine a classification of the air gesture; and a transceiver to transmit a signal to a receiver associated with a receiver device, to initiate a connection between the system and the receiver device, when the air gesture is recognized as a triggering gesture to initiate the connection.

    Abstract: Various systems and methods for initiating a communication session are provided herein. A system includes a transceiver disposed in a housing of the system; a controller coupled to the transceiver; a communication controller to interface with the controller and cause the transceiver to: transmit a first signal to a receiver device, the first signal including a public key associated with the system; receive a response from the receiver device, the response including an encrypted public key of the receiver device, the public key of the receiver device encrypted with the public key associated with the system; and transmit a second signal to the receiver device, the second signal including an encrypted unique identifier, the unique identifier associated with the system and used to establish a Bluetooth connection between the system and the receiver device, and the unique identifier encrypted with the public key of the receiver device.

    Abstract: Transmission power control methods and devices are described. In a transmission power control method, a specific absorption rate (SAR) is calculated based on a transmission power of the communication device and a proximity distance of the communication device with an external object. A time average specific absorption rate can be calculated based on the SAR. A power absorption budget value can be calculated based on the time average specific absorption rate and a time average specific absorption rate threshold value. Further, the transmission power of the communication device can be adjusted based on the power absorption budget value.
