Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel on which a plurality of pixels having a light emitting element is disposed and a display control unit configured to display an image on the display panel by causing each of the plurality of pixels to emit light based on a pixel signal that defines luminance of each of the plurality of pixels. The display control unit is configured to display the image by decreasing luminance of a first pixel which is a protection target pixel of the plurality of pixels and increasing luminance of a second pixel disposed around the first pixel.

Abstract: A display device includes: an image display panel having a display area; a light source device configured to illuminate the image display panel with light sources; and a controller configured to control a lighting amount of each light source. The display area includes segment areas each illuminated by one or more of the light sources. Each segment area includes subsegment areas. The controller is configured to: calculate luminance required for each subsegment area, based on an image signal for each subsegment area; temporarily set luminance values of the respective segment areas for determining the lighting amounts of the light sources based on maximum luminance among the required luminance values of the respective subsegment areas of each segment area; and reset, based on at least the maximum luminance, the luminance value of at least the segment area adjacent to the corresponding subsegment area having the required luminance of the maximum luminance.

Abstract: A display system includes a controller and an image display panel. Abstract: In a display device, pixels each including first to fourth subpixels that respectively display first to third primary colors and fourth color are arranged on an image display panel. A lighting unit emits light to the panel from the rear thereof. A control unit calculates a required luminance value for each block of the display surface of the panel based on an input image signal, determines a light source lighting amount of the lighting unit based on luminance distribution information on the lighting unit so as to satisfy the required luminance value, generates luminance information on each pixel based on the luminance distribution information and light source lighting amount, generates an output image signal that drives the subpixels based on the luminance information and input image signal, controls the lighting unit by the light source lighting amount, and controls the panel by the output image signal.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display apparatus includes: a plurality of light sources; a display device irradiated with light from the light sources; and a controller. The display area includes a plurality of partial areas corresponding to the light sources on a one-to-one basis. Each of the partial areas includes a first area and a second area, the first area being irradiated with light from a first light source that corresponds thereto, and the second area being irradiated with light from the first light source and a second light source adjacent to the first light source. The controller controls an operation of the first light source based on whether the first area requires the light from the first light source and whether the second area obtains light required for display output by receiving the light from the second light source.
