Abstract: A display device includes an electrode layer and a liquid crystal layer. The electrode layer has a first electrode and a second electrode. The second electrode is opposed to the first electrode and having a plurality of openings extending in a same extending direction. The liquid crystal layer is disposed on the electrode layer. The liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer in a region in proximity to one side of the opening and liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer in a region in proximity to another side of the opening, the sides of the opening being opposed to each other in a width direction of the opening, are rotated in opposite directions from each other and aligned.

Abstract: A viewing angle of emission light is widened. A width of the viewing angle is adjusted. A liquid crystal diffraction grating includes at least a first substrate, a liquid crystal layer and a second substrate. The first substrate includes a lower electrode and an upper electrode opposite to the lower electrode, and the upper electrode includes a plurality of branch electrodes that extend in a Y direction and are arranged in an X direction in a plan view. When no voltage is applied to the plurality of branch electrodes, an alignment direction of liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer is a direction along the X or Y direction. When polarizers are arranged on upper and lower sides of the liquid crystal diffraction grating, transmission axes of these polarizers are parallel to each other and parallel to the alignment direction of the liquid crystal molecules.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes scanning and video signal lines, pixel electrodes and first and second common electrodes. The pixel electrodes include first and second pixel electrodes with linear electrodes and connection portion. In the first pixel electrodes, the linear electrodes overlap the first common electrode, and the connection portion overlaps first slit between the first and second common electrodes. In the second pixel electrodes, the linear electrodes overlap the second common electrode, and the connection portion overlaps second slit between the second and first common electrodes. Different potentials are applied to the first and second common electrodes.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes two substrates sandwiching liquid crystals, and first and second electrodes formed in one of the two substrates. The first electrode is one of a pixel electrode and a common electrode. The second electrode is the other of the pixel electrode and the common electrode. The first electrode has, in each pixel, first and second portions extending in a first direction and spaced in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction.
