    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a refrigeration system that includes an evaporator disposed along an evaporator line, a compressor system disposed along a compressor line, a condenser disposed along a condenser line and configured to condense the refrigerant compressed by the compressor system to heat a second fluid stream, and an outdoor coil disposed along a coil line and configured to receive the refrigerant from the condenser or from a discharge line, to selectively transfer heat to or from the refrigerant, and to selectively transfer the refrigerant to the evaporator or to a suction line. The refrigeration system includes two valves and three expansion valves disposed along the different refrigerant flow lines, and a controller configured to determine a simultaneous heating/cooling operating mode of the refrigeration system and to control the valves and expansion valves to operate the refrigeration system in the desired mode.

    Abstract: A chiller system includes a mechanical-cooling circuit configured to circulate a refrigerant through an evaporator of the mechanical-cooling circuit, where the evaporator is configured to cool a conditioning fluid with the refrigerant. The chiller system also includes a free-cooling circuit configured to circulate the refrigerant through a heat exchanger of the free-cooling circuit, where the heat exchanger is configured to cool the conditioning fluid with the refrigerant.     Abstract: Air cooled chillers have auxiliary heat recovery systems that include a heat recovery heat exchanger for transferring heat from a compressed refrigerant to a process fluid. According to certain embodiments, the air cooled chillers also includes a compressor, a condenser, an expansion device, and a controller to govern operations of the expansion device, a fan in the condenser, and other components of the chiller system. The controller may receive signals from temperature and pressure sensors located throughout the chiller system in order to determine a heat recovery load of the heat recovery heat exchanger. The controller may govern operations of the condenser fan and the expansion device according to a low heat recovery mode, an intermediate heat recovery mode, or a full heat recovery mode. In full heat recovery mode, the controller operates the expansion device based on subcooling detected in the heat recovery heat exchanger.
