Abstract:
A system and a method of powering an external device with a vehicular battery system allow a user to charge electrically-powered devices with the electrical power source of his or her vehicle. The system includes an electrically-driven vehicle which includes a high-voltage battery. The system further includes a power modifier, an auxiliary battery, at least one external device, at least one on/off relay, and a user controller. The power modifier modifies the high-voltage DC drawn from the high-voltage battery to safely charge the auxiliary battery. The auxiliary battery stores electrical power. The external device may be any electrically-powered device. The on/off relay allows a user to turn the system on or off when desired. The user controller is communicably coupled to the on/off relay through a relay wireless communication module. The user controller allows a user to remotely operate the on/off relay and, thus, remotely turn the system on or off.
Abstract:
A dust collection system includes a drill that includes an arbor and a hole saw. A vacuum is provided that includes a hose. A bellows is provided and the bellows may be positioned against a surface. The drill is extended into the bellows to cut a hole in the surface. The bellows surrounds the hole saw to contain dust created when the hole saw cuts the hole. The hose of the vacuum is fluidly coupled to the bellows. Thus, the vacuum sucks the dust out of the bellows.
Abstract:
Self-preserving ophthalmic formulations containing norketotifen and methods of making the same and the use thereof in patients suffering from xerophthalmia are disclosed. The methods also comprise administering to the eyes of a mammal in need thereof, self-preserving topical ophthalmic formulations containing norketotifen, free from any added preservative.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for consumer price index determination using panel-based and point-of-sale market research data are disclosed. Disclosed example methods to determine a consumer price index include defining a plurality of item strata for use in determining the consumer price index, each item stratum being defined by specifying a plurality of attributes associating items with the item stratum, obtaining pricing information for a plurality of items, at least some of the plurality of items having not been preselected for inclusion in any of the plurality of item strata, determining price differentials for the plurality of item strata, a respective price differential for a respective item stratum being determined by combining the pricing information for a group of items, from the plurality of items, having the specified attributes defining the respective item stratum, and combining the determined price differentials for the plurality of item strata to determine the consumer price index.
Abstract:
An implantable medical device comprises a near field telemetry module to wirelessly receive first information into the IMD, a far field telemetry module to wirelessly receive second information into the IMD, and a processor in electrical communication with the near field telemetry module and the far field telemetry module. The processor is configured to establish, in relation to a communication signal received by the near field telemetry module, a time period during which communication via the far field telemetry module is available, and operate the IMD according to the received second information upon receiving third information via the near field telemetry link.
Abstract:
A system and method for determining an operational status of a segment of a hybrid fiber coax (HFC) cable network. Subscriber premises units (SPUs) connected to the HFC cable network are “pinged” and their responses recorded. The two most responsive SPUs in each node of the HFC cable network are identified. The most responsive SPU is added to a primary ping list and the next most responsive SPU is added to a secondary ping list. The SPUs on the primary list are “pinged” and their responses recorded. If an SPU on the primary list fails to respond, the secondary SPU associated with the node is pinged. If both the primary and secondary SPU associated with a node fail to respond to the “ping,” the node is identified as non-responsive. If all of the nodes associated with a modulator (or a demodulator) are identified as non-responsive, the modulator (or demodulator) is identified as “non-responsive.” Additionally, network devices are pinged and their responses noted. Using the responsiveness of nodes and network devices, faults in segments in an HFC cable network can be identified and located.
Abstract:
A data-driven, hierarchical information navigation system and method enable search of sets of documents or other materials by certain common attributes that characterize the materials. The invention includes several aspects of a data-driven, hierarchical navigation system that employs this navigation mode. The navigation system of the present invention includes features of an interface, a knowledge base and a taxonomy definition process and a classification process for generating the knowledge base, a graph-based navigable data structure and method for generating the data structure, World Wide Web-based applications of the system, and methods of implementing the system. Users are able to search or browse a particular collection of documents by selecting desired values for the attributes. A data-driven, hierarchical information navigation system and method enable this navigation mode by associating terms with the materials, defining a set of hierarchical relationships among the terms, and providing a guided search mechanism based on the relationship between the terms.

An implantable medical device comprises a near field telemetry module, a far field telemetry module, and a processor in electrical communication with the near field telemetry module and the far field telemetry module. The processor is configured to establish, in relation to a communication signal received by the near field telemetry module, a time period during which communication via the far field telemetry module is available, authenticate a far field communication session using the far field telemetry module, and communicate using the far field telemetry module upon authentication of the communication session.
Abstract:
Set top boxes (STBs) connected to the HFC cable network are “pinged” and their responses recorded. The two most responsive STBs in each node of the HFC cable network are identified. The most responsive STB is added to a primary ping list and the next most responsive STB is added to a secondary ping list. The STBs on the primary list are “pinged” and their responses recorded. If an STB on the primary list fails to respond, the secondary STB associated with the node is pinged. If both the primary and secondary STB associated with a node fail to respond to the “ping,” the node is identified as non-responsive.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for consumer price index determination using panel-based and point-of-sale market research data are disclosed. An example method to determine a consumer price index disclosed herein comprises obtaining panelist market research data determined by monitoring items purchased by a plurality of statistically-selected panelists, obtaining retail site market research data for items sold by a plurality of retail sites, combining the panelist market research data and the retail site market research data to determine weighted equivalent unit pricing information for each group of common items in an item stratum of the consumer price index having substantially similar attributes except for a unit amount, and determining the consumer price index using the weighted equivalent unit pricing information.
