There are disclosed a silver halide emulsion and a silver halide photographic material using same. The silver halide emulsion comprises high-silver-chloride grains that have localized phases containing iron ions and iridium ions each in a limited amount. The disclosure as described provides a silver halide emulsion and a silver halide photographic material that are excellent in rapid processibility, high in sensitivity and contrast, less in the change of sensitivity due to a change of exposure illuminance.

There is disclosed a silver halide photographic material and a method for forming a color image, which uses an emulsion that is suitable for scanning exposure by laser diodes, that is excellent in rapid processability, and that is high in sensitivity and contrast. And, there is provided a silver halide photographic material and a method for forming a color image, that uses an emulsion that is small in the fluctuation in gradation and sensitivity owing to a change in exposure illumination intensity and that is particularly small in the fluctuation in sensitivity owing to a change in temperature at the time of exposure in high-intensity exposure, such as laser scanning exposure. Disclosure described provides a silver halide color photographic material having photographic constitutional layers that comprise at least three photosensitive layers containing respectively different dye-forming couplers and at least one non-photosensitive hydrophilic layer, on a support, characterized in that said three photosensitive layers have spectral sensitivity maximums in respectively different wavelength regions that are over 650 nm; the silver halide emulsion contained in these three photosensitive layers contains 96 mol % or more of silver chloride; the silver halide grains contained in at least one of the photosensitive layers contain 0.01 to 3 mol % of silver iodide and an iron compound in an amount of 10.sup.-7 to 10.sup.-3 mol per mol of the silver halide, and 80% or more of the total content of each of the silver iodide and the iron compound is present in the surface layer corresponding to no greater than 50% of the volume of grains from the surface of said silver halide grains; and a method for forming a color image.
