    摘要: A Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) radio system achieves synchronization by performing a two-step synchronization. A simplified frame/slot synchronization is followed by a symbol synchronization of higher accuracy. This symbol timing is passed to a frequency offset unit which determines the amount of frequency drift between the transmitter and receiver and compensates for the frequency drift. This results in improved receiver performance for the TDMA digital radio system.

    摘要: A digital radio receiver for synchronization of radiowave transmissions for digital and analog FM signals in TDMA systems such as cellular telephones uses a tangent type differential detector that minimizes the bit error rate. The differential detector employs an A/D converter circuit that samples a received signal, a sorter circuit that selects a predetermined number of samples to be used in the decoding, a sample and phase adjustment circuit that allows for a carrier phase adjustment and sample timing adjustment, a divider circuit that eliminates the need for a conventional limiter by causing a ratio of amplitudes to be processed instead of absolute signal amplitudes, an inverse tangent circuit creates a decoded phase angle from the ratio, a delay circuit and a summer circuit that create a differential signal, a modulo-2.pi. correction circuit that corrects for wrap-around errors about the real axis, and a four-phase decoder circuit to decode the signal into a pair of bits. An adjustment circuit minimizes phase error between a reference sequence of symbols and the decoded symbols by simultaneously adjusting the sample timing and carrier phase adjustments. The differential detector can be modified to decode conventional analog FM radio broadcasts by processing more samples per symbol, deactivating the adjustment circuit, and the SPA circuit, and bypassing the four-phase decoder.

    摘要: A received time division multiple access (TDMA) signal having a time slot comprised of a plurality of symbols including at least one sequence of synchronizing symbols and a plurality of data symbols is demodulated by adaptively filtering the received signal to minimize inter-symbol interference due to an effect of channel signal propagation delay. The adaptive filtering step is performed by processing the received signal with a multi-stage lattice decision feedback equalizer having (M=N.sub.1 -N.sub.2) stages followed by (N.sub.2 -1) two-dimensional stages. A metric is next formed for each of the stages in accordance with a predetermined mathematical relationship between the output signals of each of two stages. A plurality of the formed metrics are next accumulated over a plurality of time slots. A number of stages are then recursively determined for the lattice decision feedback equalizer for use during the next time slot by comparing, to a threshold value, the difference between the values of two accumulated metrics.

Signal bursts are transmitted from TDMA transmitters to a TDMA receiver wherein the transmitter codes the information and transmits coded information to the receiver using at least one of two timeslots of a plurality of timeslots in a repetitive TDMA frame period. Both of the two timeslots are received whether or not the transmitter has transmitted using one or two timeslots and the received signals are classified as intended and non-intended. Successively received signals classified as intended are then assembled into a block for decoding to reproduce the information.

A first set of the beams is used to receive signals which are decoded at the base station.     摘要: An apparatus for joint synchronization of digital communication signals from multiple receive channels comprises a control unit, a metric computer, and a decimator. The control unit generates test sampling phase vectors for use in decimating the signals. The output of the decimator is used by the metric computer to form a metric predictive of the performance of a demodulator. The metric is used by the control unit to select an optimal sampling phase vector. In one embodiment, the metric computer calculates the signal to impairment plus noise ratio (SINR) at the output of the demodulator based on the decimated signals. In one embodiment, a data correlation estimator generates a data correlation estimate for use in calculating output SINR. In another embodiment, the apparatus includes a select unit and a metric computer. The select unit may include a control unit and a decimator. The metric computer also includes at least one decimator. Test sampling phase vectors are provided to the metric computer along with the input signals. The metric computer generates a metric predictive of the performance of the interference canceling processor. The control unit selects a test sampling phase vector that optimizes performance of the interference canceling processor. The decimator decimates the input signals according to the sampling phases of the selected sampling phase vector. A method of joint synchronization of signals from multiple receive channels is also disclosed.
