    Abstract: A powered actuator includes a leadscrew as an extensible member connected to a closure, such as a vehicle side door and is configured to move linearly for opening or closing the closure. The first powered actuator also includes a gearbox configured apply a force to the extensible member for causing the extensible member to move linearly. An adapter is configured to mount the gearbox to the vehicle body. The adapter allows the powered actuator to replace a non-powered door check device. The adapter also allows some relative rotation between the gearbox and the vehicle body for fitment of the powered actuator. An electromagnetic (EM) brake is coupled to the gearbox on an opposite side from the electric motor. A high-resolution position sensor is coupled to a driven shaft to measure a position of the actuator, the position sensor is spaced apart from the EM brake to prevent electromagnetic interference therefrom.

    Abstract: A closure latch assembly includes a latch mechanism having a pawl moveable between a ratchet holding position, whereat a ratchet is maintained in a striker capture position, and a ratchet release position, whereat the ratchet is biased toward a striker release position. An electromagnetic actuator includes a first member, a second member, a plurality of permanent magnets fixed to one of the first and second members and a plurality of electromagnetic coils fixed to the other of the first and second members. The electromagnetic coils are energizable to attract and repel the plurality of permanent magnets to move the first member relative to the second member, whereupon the relative movement causes at least one of the following actuations: movement of the pawl between the ratchet holding and ratchet release positions; locking the pawl against movement from the ratchet holding position to the ratchet release position; and cinching the ratchet in the striker capture position.

The latch mechanism is operable in a released state when a closure panel is located in an open position, in a secondary closed state when the closure panel is located in a partially-closed position, and in a primary closed state when the closure panel is located in a fully-closed position. The cinching mechanism interacts with the latch mechanism to establish the secondary closed state and is actuated for shifting the latch mechanism from its secondary closed state into its primary closed state.
