Holes are made in the tube supporting part into which holes the legs of the lamp envelope are placed and the ends of the legs of the lamp envelope being inside the housing portion are fixed with a bonding material applied to the outside lamp envelope portion of the tube supporting part which portion surrounds the lamp envelope. The essential feature of the invention is that the ends of the tube legs of the lamp envelope being inside the housing portion are fixed to the tube supporting part with a bonding material being also applied to the inside portion of the tube support part, which inside portion is bordered by the tube legs.

This invention relates to a single-ended discharge lamp having an electric circuitry placed in its base member, which discharge lamp comprises a discharge tube filled with additive and gas, is sealed in a gas-tight manner and is provided with electrodes. A base member is provided for the mounting of the discharge tube and for incorporating the electric circuitry mounted on a printed circuit board therein. The base member has a screw base mounted thereon both for mechanical and electrical connection to a socket. Furthermore, the terminals of the circuitry are fixed and are electrically connected with the electrode lead wires by means of mechanical connector arrangement where the mechanical connector component is one contiguous metal part. The essential feature of the solution according to the invention is the mechanical connector arrangement includes a base part and a connection part of which the base part is embedded in the printed circuit board and the electrode lead wires are connected to the connection part. The connection part is formed as a cavity and the electrode lead wires intrude into this cavity and the electrode lead wires are mechanically fixed and simultaneously electrically connected to the wall of the cavity.

Locating the first and second ends of the coiled CFL source positions the electrodes within a substantially spherical outer envelope at a location remotely spaced from the ballast compartment. In this manner, only small diameter first and second lead wires that mechanically and electrically engage the electrodes pass through small dimensioned passages in a separation member in the outer envelope cavity. This substantially reduces the thermal stress on the components.

The seal region has a wall thickness and is merged in a surface portion of the two parts of the envelope so that the surface unevenness of the seal region is not greater than 0.5 millimeters, and the maximum difference of the wall thickness of the seal region with respect to the wall thickness of the outer envelope is not greater than 0.3 millimeters.A method for manufacturing an electric lamp as described above is also disclosed. During connecting, and sealing the two parts of the envelope by a welding process, the two parts are brought into a contacting position and compressed further by a first axial distance; and then the two parts are pulled apart from each other by a second axial distance in order to merge the seal region in a surface portion of the two parts, wherein the second axial distance is larger than the first axial distance.

In a method for the manufacture of a glass outer envelope, a flare that is normally used in the manufacture of incandescent lamps is turned around by 180°, put into a skirted bulbous envelope, melted into the envelope while the skirt is detached and the flare is formed into a neck-extension portion. A self-ballasted compact fluorescent lamp with the bulb-shaped outer envelope is also disclosed. A part of the ballast components are disposed in the neck-extension portion of the outer envelope.

The clip member is comprised of: at least one gripping section adapted to clip on said connecting tube portion diametrically around, and made of a curved resilient metallic strip; at least two resilient outward tags protruding out from the gripping section in different directions for providing flexible support on an inner surface portion of the outer bulb. The base shell (26) includes a thread-free opening portion (27) the inner diameter of which fits to the mantle portion (24) of and is pulled over and fixed to the plastic insert body (20). The metal central contact part (3) or each end contact part (4, 5) is fixed to the lower end of the insert body (20) which has a rim (22) at its upper end for connecting to the housing (1). The housing in turn has a connection end (11) for receiving the insert body (20).
