    Abstract: Methods and devices for camera initialization are disclosed. In some aspects, a device includes a first camera to capture one or more first image frames, a second camera to capture one or more second image frames, and a camera controller coupled to the first camera and the second camera. The camera controller is configured to initialize the first camera, to cause the second camera to capture one or more second image frames while initializing the first camera, to determine an initial capture setting for the first camera based on the one or more second image frames captured by the second camera, and to complete initialization of the first camera using the initial capture setting.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for region-of-interest (ROI) automatic gain or exposure control are presented. In one example, a method includes receiving a first image from an image sensor captured with a first field of view (FOV) and comprising a first plurality of pixels, receiving a second image from the image sensor captured with a second FOV and comprising a second plurality of pixels, determining an ROI in the second image, the ROI comprising a subset of the second plurality of pixels in the second image, determining an ROI weight for the ROI in the second image, determining statistics based on the first plurality of pixels in the first image, the subset of the second plurality of pixels in the second image, and the ROI weight for the ROI in the second image, and adjusting a gain or exposure setting for the image sensor based on the statistics.

    Abstract: Systems and method for power control for a decoder are disclosed. In one aspect, a decoder for a communication bus is put into a sleep or low power mode when the bus is idle such as when blanking information is sent over a camera serial interface (CSI) bus. By alerting the decoder that there is an opportunity for low power operation, power consumption may be reduced and, particularly for battery operated mobile devices, a time to recharge metric may be improved, which improves the user experience.

The method includes using exposure control processes to set an exposure length for a set of one or more image pixels of a sensor, determining a light level of an environment of the sensor and a confidence level associated with a set of one or more autofocus pixels of the sensor, selecting one of a first exposure control process or a second exposure control process for the set of one or more autofocus pixels of the sensor, where the selection is based on the light level and the confidence level, performing an autofocus operation for the sensor based on an output of the one or more autofocus pixels and the selected one of the first or the second exposure control process, and outputting image data from the one or more image pixels of the sensor based on the autofocus operation.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for dual phase detection auto focus (PDAF) power optimization are described. A camera device may capture a frame including a pixel array representing a scene. In some examples, each pixel of the pixel array may be a phase detection (PD) pixel having one or more values, or one or more PD pixels positioned randomly across the pixel array. The camera device may identify a configuration of the pixel array, and determine a condition of the pixel array relative to the configuration. The configuration may be a binning configuration or a frame pattern configuration, and the condition may include an illumination condition related to the pixel array representing the scene. The camera device may determine and apply a reconfiguration to at least a portion of the pixel array based on the condition of the pixel array, and determine a lens position of the camera device therewith.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are techniques for dynamically configuring an image sensor of a mobile device for visible light communication (VLC) to an operational mode based on the position of the image of a VLC source on the image sensor and the different regions of interest (ROIs) of different operational modes of the image sensor. The operational mode that the image sensor is configured to has the smallest ROI among ROIs of operational modes that include at least a portion of the image of the VLC source on the image sensor. Techniques disclosed herein can reduce the power consumption of the mobile device during VLC communication and improve the effective sampling rate of VLC signals by the image sensor.
