Abstract: In one aspect, a method of wireless communication includes receiving, by a user equipment (UE), data from one or more beam pairs of a plurality of beams at least partially concurrently; determining, by the UE, one or more signal parameters for the one or more beam pairs; determining, by the UE, one or more joint quasi co-located (QCL) indicators for the one or more beam pairs and one or more non-joint QCL indicators for the one or more beam pairs; and transmitting, by the UE, a measurement report including the one or more joint QCL indicators and the one or more non-joint QCL indicators. In another aspect, a method of wireless communication includes determining a particular beam or beams for transmitting second data based on the measurement report; and transmitting the second data using the particular beam or beams. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive an indication of an uplink transmission configuration indication (TCI) state. The UE may determine that the uplink TCI state identifies a pathloss reference signal for an associated uplink transmission. The UE may determine an uplink power control parameter for the uplink transmission based at least in part on the pathloss reference signal. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a serving base station, a message indicating a set of synchronization signal block (SSB) resources for synchronization signal transmission by the serving base station and by one or more neighbor base stations. The SSB resources may include a first portion of resources associated with the serving base station and additional portions of resources associated with the one or more neighbor base stations. The UE may identify two or more symbols which are adjacent to consecutive SSB resources of the set of SSB resources, and exclude the two or more symbols from being used for communications between the UE and the serving base station based on the two or more symbols being adjacent to consecutive SSB resources. The UE may communicate with the serving base station on symbols other than the two or more symbols.

A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes communicating using beams associated with at least two beam groups, transmitting a beam failure recovery request (BFRQ) specific to a first beam group of the at least two beam groups based on a detected beam failure in the first beam group, and receiving a response to the BFRQ based, at least in part, on how the BFRQ is transmitted.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first device may transmit, to a second device, reference signals using combinations of analog beamforming parameters over multiple cycles. The reference signals may be transmitted for different combinations of transmit beamforming parameters and receive beamforming parameters over different cycles of the multiple cycles. The first device may receive, from the second device over the multiple cycles, a set of reports. Each report may indicate combinations of analog beamforming parameters selected for the analog beamforming parameters at the second device. Each combination of analog beamforming parameters may correspond to different cycles of the multiple cycles. The first device may set, for each radio frequency (RF) chain of a plurality of RF chains associated with the first device, a corresponding combination of analog beamforming parameters, and communicate with the second device via two or more beams based on the setting.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for beam failure recovery in a wireless communications system. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) detects a beam failure of a first downlink beam received at the UE from a base station, wherein the first downlink beam is a primary downlink beam for a first cell supported by the base station, sends, to the base station, on a supplementary uplink (SUL) beam, a message including an indication of the beam failure and an identification of a second downlink beam to replace the first downlink beam as the primary downlink beam for the first cell, and, based on the base station configuring the second downlink beam as the primary downlink beam for the first cell, establishes an uplink beam for the first cell based on properties of the second downlink beam.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques to improve reliability and robustness for millimeter wave (mmW) systems in fifth generation (5G) wireless communications technology (also referred to as new radio (NR)). Specifically, the present disclosure provides techniques to allow the base station to group a plurality of mmW beams for communication with the user equipment (UE) such that the selected beam(s) for communication are independent and uncorrelated. The selection of beams ensure macro-diversity in that the joint blocking probability of the selected beam(s) may be minimized and the susceptibility to blockage is reduced in comparison to the current systems.
