    摘要: A filter network suitable for translating a signal such as a demodulated "I" chrominance component of a composite color television signal is disclosed. The filter network comprises first and second cascaded sections with mutually grossly mismatched terminating impedances, and are passively interconnected via a resistance of a value which substantially precludes interaction between the sections over a given range of frequencies within the passband of the signals being translated. Both sections are separately excited with signals to be translated. The first section provides wideband filtering and a large amount of delay relative to that provided by the second section. The second section provides signal amplitude peaking within a given portion of the frequency passband of the first section.

    摘要: A system and method for filtering a digital signal having a relatively high data rate uses circuitry which operates at a lower data rate. The filter includes an input section which receives the input signal and which divides the input signal into a plurality of contiguous segments. The system also includes a first filter which receives samples representing one of the plurality of segments and adjacent samples from the next contiguous one of the segments and which filters all of the received samples to produce a first filtered signal. A second filter receives samples of the next contiguous segment and filters those samples to produce a second filtered signal. The filtered signals are combined by providing the samples of the second filtered signal immediately after the samples of the first filtered signal to produce a filtered output signal. The invention also relates to using respective timing signals associated with the segments to determine when the samples of the first and second filtered signals are provided.

    摘要: A high-definition television receiver includes circuitry to decode a received high-definition television signal to produce a digital data stream representing the corresponding high-definition television image. In addition, the receiver includes circuitry which generates a signal representing a reduced resolution image from the decoded data stream. The receiver provides both the high-definition television signal and the reduced resolution signal at an output port. A video tape recorder (VTR) receives the two signals, segments them and formats them onto the tape in a manner which allows a majority of the reduced resolution segments to be recovered and displayed in at least one of the VTR's trick-play modes. The reduced resolution image may be from the same channel or from a different channel and may also be displayed as an inset picture (PIX-IN-PIX) in the main high-definition image.

    摘要: An NTSC compatible television system capable of enhanced resolution images with an appropriate receiver is described. The video transmission associated with this system may be received by a standard NTSC television receiver and displayed in letter box format. The added information required to achieve enhanced resolution in an 16 by 9 format is bit reduced and transmitted either during the mask areas present when viewing the signal on an NTSC standard receiver and/or in a quadrature channel typically not detectable without a special decoder by the NTSC receiver. The digital information transmitted during the mask areas, the NTSC image, and the digital information transmitted via the quadrature channel are combined to arrive at the enhanced resolution television display.

    摘要: A motion adaptive vertical filter is used to filter an interlaced video signal on a frame basis in areas of the image that are not in motion and on a field basis in areas that are in motion. A soft switch mixes the field filtered data and the frame filtered data in areas where there is relatively little motion to prevent artifacts which may be caused by abruptly switching between the two vertical filtering schemes. The frame vertical filter reduces the vertical resolution of still NTSC images to 180 cycles per picture height (CPH) while the field filter reduces the vertical resolution to 90 CPH.

    摘要: A video signal encoder uses an encoding system such as that developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). A key component of this encoding system reduces the number of bits required to encode the video signal. Apparatus according to the present invention, filters out high diagonal frequencies in the spatial domain of a video signal. Specifically, two dimensional (2-D) filtering is performed on frames of a video signal to filter out high diagonal spatial frequencies before the video signal is separated into blocks. These blocks may be encoded in fewer bits due to elimination of noise components and other image components having high diagonal frequencies.

    摘要: The black level of the NTSC portion of an EDTV broadcast signal is set to a level N, typically twice as high as the normal 7.5 IRE units. This signal characteristic motivates the viewer or the automatic black level circuits of the NTSC receiver to raise the receiver's black level to about the same N IRE units for optimum reception of the transmitted signal. EDTV enhancement signals are transmitted in the range of +N to -N (for example, +15 to -15) IRE units. Since the NTSC receiver is adjusted to blank all signals below N IRE, the EDTV enhancement signals between +N and -N IRE levels do not trigger the display in the NTSC receiver, thereby maintaining the upper and lower band areas at a uniform black level without unwarranted speckles or other interference.

    摘要: In a color TV receiver, a composite video signal processing circuit serves to prepare the signal input to a CCD comb filter, and includes a transistor phase splitter with a first load resistor connected to the transistor's collector electrode and a second load resistor connected to the transistor's emitter electrode. A reactance of a first sign couples the collector electrode to an output terminal, while a reactance of the opposite sign couples the emitter electrode to the same output terminal. A capacitor between the transistor's collector and base electrodes provides a negative feedback path for signal components. Parameter values are selected to provide the processing circuit with a peak response at a frequency above the frequency band occupied by the composite video signals. Processing circuit provides a substantially constant group delay for signal frequencies throughout the band, while compensating for decline at high signal frequencies of IF amplifier's amplitude-versus-frequency characteristic.
