Abstract: The disclosure relates to a fifth generation (5G) or sixth generation (6G) communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. A method for determining a mapping order of channel state information (CSI) fields for CSI reports of a terminal to determine spatial domain adaptation and power domain adaptation when network energy saving is applied is provided. A method performed by a terminal in a communication system is provided. The method includes receiving, from a base station, configuration information for a channel state information (CSI) report, wherein the configuration information includes a CSI report configuration including a plurality of sub-configurations for sub-reports, receiving, from the base station, channel state information reference signals (CSI-RSs) associated with the CSI report configuration, identifying CSI based on the CSI-RSs and the configuration information, and transmitting, to the base station, the CSI, wherein the CSI includes CSI fields of sub-reports ordered by indexes of the sub-reports.
