摘要： An apparatus for adjusting an engine valve. The valve is actuated by a cam on a camshaft. The cam has a cam surface that drives the valve by way of a follower. The radius of the cam surface varies in the axial direction in an angular section of the cam. A pulley surrounds one end of the camshaft. The camshaft is rotated relative to the pulley to change the valve timing and the camshaft is also moved axially to change the lift of the valve by changing the area of the cam surface engaged by the follower.

摘要： A tubular insert with a small internal volume is disposed inside the vaporization chamber at the inlet of a capillary column of a gas chromatograph such that the sample with a solvent injected into the vaporization chamber is carried by a carrier gas through the insert into the column. The internal volume of the insert is such that the retention time of the carrier gas through the insert is less than 4 seconds. A heater is controlled to maintain the temperature inside the vaporization chamber within a specified range above the boiling point of the solvent as the sample is injected into the vaporization chamber, and this temperature is subsequently raised to a final temperature above the boiling points of the components to be analyzed. The carrier gas pressure is temporarily increased for better efficiency as the sample is injected.

摘要： An image recording device having a detachable web roll cassette in which a rolled web sheet is accommodated. The device includes a frame body having a web roll cassette insertion port, a web roll cassette accommodating portion, and a web sheet passage extending from the web roll cassette accommodating portion in a sheet feeding direction. The device also includes a web roll cassette, a rotary cutter positioned downstream of the web roll cassette, a sheet feeding unit including a drive roller and a pinch roller for nipping the web sheet therebetween, and a print head for printing the image on the web sheet fed by the sheet feed unit. The web roll cassette includes an upper and lower cases accommodating therein a web roll at one side and defining a front end discharge portion at another side directing toward the web sheet passage. The upper and lower cases are formed with through holes at a position adjacent the front end discharge portion. The drive roller and the pinch roller are respectively positioned at the through holes.

摘要： A variable valve timing mechanism of an internal combustion engine varies the rotational phase of a camshaft with respect to a drive shaft to vary the timing of a set of engine valves. The mechanism includes a first rotor for a rotation in synchronism with the drive shaft and a second rotor for a rotation in synchronism with the camshaft. The second rotor has vanes, which are located in hydraulic chambers. Unequal hydraulic forces on the vanes causes the second rotor to rotate with respect to the first rotor to change the rotational phase of the camshaft with respect to the drive shaft. Hydraulic pressure is supplied to a certain side of the vanes to apply forces to the vanes. A lock member locks the second rotor to the first rotor to fix the rotational phase of the camshaft with respect to the drive shaft. The lock member unlocks the second rotor from the first rotor only when the hydraulic pressure supplied to the vanes is such that the torque produced by the hydraulic pressure on the vanes is at least as great as an oppositely directed torque resulting from rotational fluctuation of the camshaft. This prevents the vanes from colliding against the walls of their chambers, which produces noise.
