摘要: A printing apparatus includes: a feeding shaft configured to support a roll body; a printing section configured to perform printing on a medium fed from the feeding shaft; a tension applying unit configured to come into contact with the medium after the medium is fed out from the feeding shaft and before the medium reaches the printing section, thereby applying tension to the medium; and a control unit, in which the tension applying unit includes: a tension bar configured to come into contact with the medium; an arm configured to support the tension bar and rotate to displace the tension bar; an encoder configured to detect a rotational angle of the arm; and a stopper configured to come into contact with the tension bar or the arm to restrict movement of the tension bar and the arm, and the control unit sets, as a reference angle of the arm, a rotational angle of the arm detected by the encoder in a state in which the tension bar or the arm is in contact with the stopper.

摘要: A recording device includes a roll holding unit, a transport mechanism, a recording unit, a cutting mechanism, and a discharge unit. The recording unit performs recording on a transported medium from the roll. The cutting mechanism cuts the medium, in an intersecting direction intersecting a transport direction. The discharge unit discharges the medium cut by the cutting mechanism. The transport mechanism includes a transport roller pair disposed upstream of the recording unit in the transport path. The control unit determines that the remaining length L2 of the medium is insufficient to perform recording in a state of pinching the medium by the transport roller pair and the remaining length L2 is greater than the predetermined length (affirmative determination in step S14), the control unit cuts, by the cutting mechanism, a remaining medium to a predefined length L3 or less and discharges the remaining medium (steps S17 to S20).

摘要: A pivot mechanism for a printer is provided, the pivot mechanism comprising a pivot base and two oppositely disposed side walls extending perpendicular to the pivot base. An arched slot may be provided in each side wall. Each slot may have at least two notches, each notch defining different positions of the pivot mechanism. Two lever arms may be provided, each of the two lever arms comprising a first end and a second end, with a connecting rod connecting the first ends of the lever arms together. A locking pin may be disposed on the second end of each of the lever arms. Each of the locking pins may extend into a corresponding one of the slots and engage with a corresponding notch. A pivot rod extends through the lever arms and into or through the side walls. The printer housing is adapted to pivot on the pivot rod.

摘要: The present invention embraces a method and apparatus for providing feedback to a user on the status of media or ribbon of a printer. The feedback may be provided by incorporating a feedback mechanism in a hanger of a printer. The printer may be a thermal printer, but may be another type of printer. The feedback mechanism of the printer may be designed to work with one or more sensors to provide a feedback loop so that without an input from a user, the printer is able to detect the presence/absence of media or ribbon, as well as determine the width of the loaded media or ribbon. In another embodiment, the feedback mechanism is able to determine the weight of the roll of media or ribbon and hence determine the quantity of media or ribbon available on the hanger.
