摘要: A distribution network 108 receives simplex communications or pages from any number of user interface nodes (UINs) (202) and distributes the pages to one or more paging outlets provided by page termination nodes (PTNs) (110) and delivery systems (102). The UINs (202) perform the bulk of the processing related to the distributed system of the present invention. Originator services (1000) are provided through UINs (202). Through originator services (1000) callers may place pages or inquire about previously placed pages. In placing pages, page originators can specify options (1102-1104) related to the delivery of pages. Subscriber updating services (1100) are also provided through UINs (202). The updating services (1100) allow a subscriber to alter (802-812) the services provided by the distribution network (108). For example, the subscriber may change delivery addresses (402) which identify the delivery systems (102) through which pages are to be delivered. Security procedures are implemented to insure that only authorized persons can alter the specification of services provided by the distribution network (108).

摘要: A wireless communication method and antenna system for determining the direction of arrival (DOA) of received signals in azimuth and elevation, (i.e., in three dimensions), to form a beam for transmitting and receiving signals. The system includes two antenna arrays, each having a plurality of antenna elements, two first stage multi-mode-port matrices, at least one second stage multi-mode-port matrix, an azimuth phase detector, an elevation amplitude detector, a plurality of phase shifters and a transceiver. The antenna arrays and the first stage multi-mode-port matrices form a plurality of orthogonal omni-directional modes. Each of the modes has a characteristic phase set. Two of the modes' phases are used to determine DOA in azimuth. The second stage multi-mode-port matrix forms a sum-mode and a difference-mode used to determine the DOA of the received signals in elevation. A beam is formed in the direction of the received signals by adjusting the phase shifters.

摘要: A method and apparatus for performing Joint Randomness Not Shared by Others (JRNSO) is disclosed. In one embodiment, JRNSO is determined in Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) using a baseband signal loop back and private pilots. In another embodiment, JRNSO is determined in Time Division Duplex (TDD) using a baseband signal loop back and combinations of private pilots, private gain functions and Kalman filtering directional processing. In one example, the FDD and TDD JRSNO embodiments are performed in Single-Input-Single-Output (SISO) and Single-Input-Multiple-Output (SIMO) communications. In other examples, the FDD and TDD embodiments are performed in Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) and Multiple-Input-Single-Output (MISO) communications. JRNSO is determined by reducing MIMO and MISO communications to SISO or SIMO communications. JRNSO is also determined using determinants of MIMO channel products. Channel restrictions are removed by exploiting symmetric properties of matrix products.

摘要: A method for operating a CDMA communications device includes receiving at an antenna array M different summations from a mixture of source signals provided by M signal sources, and providing the M different summations to a receiver assembly. The receiver assembly includes a first signal path and a second signal path parallel to the first signal path. In the first signal path, a mixing matrix including the M different summations of the M source signals is formed, and at least one source signal is separated from the mixing matrix. A determination is made if the separated source signal is an interferer source signal. In the second signal path, the M different summations are delayed corresponding to a delay introduced in the first signal path. The first signal path provides to a summer the separated source signal if the separated source signal is an interferer source signal, and the second signal path provides to the summer the M different summations after being delayed. The summer removes the interferer source signal if present from the M different summations after being delayed.

摘要: In a communications device operating with a blind signal separation (BSS) processor, an initial mixing matrix is formed based upon the different summations of the source signals received by the antenna array. The initial mixing matrix is evaluated to determine a minimum rank that is necessary for at least one source signal to be useable after having been separated from the initial mixing matrix and decoded. An additional mixing matrix is then formed, and also includes the different summations of the source signals. If the rank of the additional mixing matrix is less than the minimum rank associated with the initial mixing matrix, then the source signals are modified so that the rank of the additional mixing matrix is increased.

摘要: A communications device for separating source signals provided by M signal sources includes an antenna array comprising N elements for forming at least N antenna beams for receiving at least N different summations of the M source signals, with N and M being greater than 2. A controller is connected to the antenna array for selectively forming the at least N antenna beams. A blind signal separation processor forms a mixing matrix comprising up to the at least N different summations of the M source signals. The blind signal separation processor also determines if the different summations of the M source signals are correlated or statistically independent, and if not, then cooperates with the controller for forming different beams for receiving new different summations of the M source signals to replace the different summations of the M source signals that are not correlated or statistically independent in the mixing matrix. The desired source signals are separated from the mixing matrix by the blind signal separation processor.

In response to detecting the need and before contacting the network server, the first transceiver attempts (412) to obtain the desired information from another transceiver of a plurality of wireless transceivers near the first transceiver, thereby potentially eliminating a necessity for the first transceiver to contact the network server to obtain the desired information.

摘要: A non-real time messaging system (200) for targeting messages to a subscriber unit (222) comprises a synchronized profile of where a subscriber unit should be located (a predetermined base transmission area for transmission of messages to the subscriber unit) maintained between a controller (212) and the subscriber unit. The subscriber unit detects when the subscriber unit is not within the receiving range of a predetermined base transmission area, informs the controller and the controller directs subsequent transmissions to an area identified by the subscriber unit and otherwise transmits subsequent messages to the predetermined base transmission area. The system further includes a plurality of base receivers (217) coupled to the controller for receiving transmissions from the subscriber units and allowing the controller to detect when the subscriber unit is not within the receiving range of a predetermined base transmission area.
