摘要:
A gas concentration detecting apparatus comprises a gas concentration sensor and a gas concentration calculator. The sensor has first to third cells. A gas to be detected is introduced in a chamber and the first cell is responsible for discharging and changing oxygen from and into the chamber. The second cell detects a concentration of a specific gas component of the gas that has passed along the first cell. The third cell detects a concentration of residual oxygen in the gas that remains after discharge of the oxygen through the first cell. The calculator takes in a current acquired from the second cell measured with a voltage applied thereto and calculates the specific gas component concentration based on the current. The calculator includes plural concentration calculating means whose concentration detecting ranges are mutually different in a scale. The specific gas component concentration is calculated every concentration calculating means.

A limit-current type A/F sensor produces element current responsive to oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas when a voltage is applied to its sensor element portion. An application voltage control circuit comprises an operational amplifier and resistors. An output of the control circuit is applied to one terminal of the A/F sensor via a driver circuit. The other terminal of the A/F sensor is connected to an output terminal of an operational amplifier via a current-detecting resistor. The element current value, detected by the current-detecting resistor, is returned to the application voltage control circuit via a buffer. In the application voltage control circuit, adjustment of the gain is performed in such a manner that the inclination of the application voltage line on the V-I coordinate becomes larger than the inclination equivalent to the A.C. impedance of the sensor element in the sensor activated condition.

A gas concentration sensing apparatus includes a gas introducing portion for introducing a measurement gas. A first cell opposed to the gas introduction portion operates for pumping oxygen from the measurement gas in the gas introducing portion. A second cell opposed to the gas introducing portion operates for sensing a concentration in a specific component of the measurement gas from which oxygen has been pumped by the first cell. There is a reference gas chamber to which at least one of the first cell and the second cell is exposed. The one of the first cell and the second cell which is exposed to the reference gas chamber includes an electrode facing the gas introducing portion. A current flowing through the first cell is sensed. A voltage is applied to the first cell in response to the sensed current through the first cell. A current flowing through the second cell is sensed. A voltage is applied to the second cell in response to the sensed current through the second cell. A voltage at the electrode is floated from a voltage of 0 V.

The gas sensor control apparatus is for controlling a gas sensor including a sensor element having a solid electrolyte layer, and first and second electrodes located on opposite sides of the solid electrolyte layer, the first electrode serving as a gas detecting electrode, the second electrode serving as a reference electrode, the sensor element generating, as a sensor output, a current flowing between the first and second electrodes having a value depending on concentration of a specific gas component contained in a gas under measurement. The gas sensor control apparatus includes a determination function of determining whether or not it is time for the gas sensor to start operation, and a control function of forcibly supplying oxygen from a side of the second electrode to a side of the first electrode on a temporary basis when a determination result of the first function becomes affirmative.

A gas concentration detection apparatus includes a series-connected combination of a sensor element and a resistor, with an AC voltage being applied to one of the outer terminals of that combination and with the other outer terminal being held at a fixed potential. A DC voltage signal at a level determined by an oxygen concentration that is detected by the sensor element, and an AC voltage signal at an amplitude determined by sensor element impedance and hence by the sensor element activation status, are extracted from the series-connected combination by respectively separate circuits which apply separately determined amplification factors.

A correction apparatus for correcting an output of an oxygen sensor installed in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine to measure the concentration of oxygen contained in exhaust gas. The apparatus works to execute a fuel cut operation to bring the pressure in the exhaust pipe to the atmospheric pressure and enters an under-atmosphere correction mode to sample an output of the oxygen sensor and determine a correction factor compensating for a deviation of the sampled output from a reference value representing an actual concentration of oxygen. The apparatus also works to calculate the pressure in the exhaust pipe after start of the fuel cut and determine whether the under-atmosphere correction mode is to be entered or not based on the pressure of exhaust gas, thereby ensuring the accuracy in correcting the output of the oxygen sensor regardless of a variation in the pressure of exhaust gas.

A gas concentration measuring apparatus for use in air-fuel ratio control of motor vehicle engines is provided which is designed to determine the concentrations of oxygen at different resolutions within a wide and a narrow range using a first and a second sensor signal which are amplified by first and second operational amplifiers at different amplification factors. The apparatus samples values of the first sensor signal at different concentrations of oxygen to find an output characteristic error of the first operational amplifier and determines an actual concentration of oxygen to calculate an output characteristic error of the second operational amplifier using the one of the first operational amplifier and the actual concentration of oxygen. This permits values of the first and second sensor signals to be corrected so as to compensate for the output characteristics of the first and second operational amplifiers.

In a gas concentration detecting apparatus, a voltage is applied to electrodes of a sensor element. A change is caused in either the applied voltage or an element current. An amount of a change in each of a current value and a voltage value caused is measured in response to the caused change. An amount of resistance of the sensor element is calculated based on a ratio between the change amounts in the current value and the voltage value. A detection unit detects abnormality relating to controlling the sensor by utilizing at least one of the change amounts in the current value and the voltage value.

A gas concentration measuring apparatus is provided which measures the concentration of a given gas using a gas sensor. The gas sensor includes a sensor element producing a gas concentration signal indicative of the concentration of the gas, a heater heating the sensor element, and an insulator disposed between the sensor element and the heater. The apparatus includes a heater control circuit which may provisionally supply electrical power to the heater by applying a Pulse-Width-Modulated signal. The heater control circuit performs a switching operation to supply power to the heater cyclically. The apparatus corrects an error contained in the gas concentration signal arising from a leakage current flowing into the sensor element through the insulator during the switching operation of the heater control circuit.
