摘要: A user of a data processing system may specify variability in the generation of data for data-presentation, either by displaying or printing, on an output device. The variability specification may be applied on a glyph-by-glyph basis to the presentation of glyphs. The data processing system provides processing of glyph-based quality variability requests in the following manner. The system receives a request for data-presentation of a series of glyphs and determines, for each glyph in the series of glyphs, whether quality variability is applicable to each glyph. If quality variability is applicable to each glyph, then the system determines a quality variance to be applied to each glyph according to predetermined data-presentation variability data and performs data-presentation of each glyph on an output device in accordance with the quality variance. By providing quality variability on a glyph-by-glyph basis, a relatively simple glyph, such as those used for Latin characters, may be presented using low quality. However, a more complex glyph which may require a clear presentation of its more intricate detail for a proper comprehension of the glyph, such as various Chinese characters, are presented using high quality. In this manner, computing resources may be preserved or tailored on a glyph-by-glyph basis.

摘要: An approach is provided in which a maintenance optimizer receives a policy change threshold that corresponds to a system. The maintenance optimizer monitors real-time condition data associated with the system, and determines whether the real-time condition data has reached the policy change threshold. If the real-time condition data has not reached the policy change threshold, the maintenance optimizer generates a maintenance operation notification based upon the real-time condition data according to a maintenance schedule policy. However, if the real-time condition data has reached the policy change threshold, the maintenance optimizer generates an alternate maintenance operation notification based upon the real-time condition data according to an alternate maintenance schedule policy.

摘要: A method, system, apparatus, and computer program product is presented for management of a distributed data processing system. Resources within the distributed data processing system are dynamically discovered, and the discovered resources are adaptively monitored using the network management framework. When the network management framework detects that certain components within the network management framework may have failed, new instances of these components are started. If duplicate components are later determined to be active concurrently, then a duplicate component is shutdown, thereby ensuring that at least one instance of these components is active at any given time. After certain failover events, a resource rediscovery process may occur, and a topology database containing previously stored information about discovered resources is resynchronized with resource information about rediscovered resources.

摘要: A method, system, apparatus, and computer program product are presented for management of a distributed data processing system on behalf of a plurality of management customers. A set of logical networks within the distributed data processing system and/or a set of physical networks in the distributed data processing system are associated with an anchor object. A topology map can be generated and displayed in which a root node of the topology map is the anchor object. Each anchor object is uniquely associated with a customer for which the distributed data processing system is managed. The topology display can be restricted such that portions of topology information are displayed to an administrative user in accordance with the authorized security access of the user.

摘要: A method, system, and computer program product for discovering status of a network topology. A network management framework provides the ability to specify a method for determining how to gather status of a data processing system. A data gathering technique (DGT) may be dynamically adjusted to discovery or monitoring of devices within the data processing system. Different data gathering techniques may be employed in an effort to discover or monitor the devices. In addition, results of previous network data gathering may be stored for later use. These stored results may used to develop an order of relative capabilities for a managed device or devices as compared to other device or devices in the same network. Discovery and monitoring information may be obtained about one device or N devices within the network.

摘要: A system and method for implementing tracking of computing system activities wherein the tracking can be dynamically adjusted. The system provides a multiple level logging system having a first level for detecting message level errors and a second trace level for obtaining trace information and for filtering same to provide more details to be used for implementing corrective action. A set of filters is provide to further refine the data which is provided to a user/system administrator. The system also provides for selective activation of tracking and logging for selected subsystems, as well as the ability to vary the frequency at which the tracking is performed. The frequency of logging can be adjusted upward in response to detection of a error and can then be decreased, or the tracking selectively disabled or entirely stopped upon detection of a stop event.

摘要: A system and process for monitoring web pages are implemented. The web page includes at least a portion dynamically generated in response to client data. A set of hooks, constituting alternative entries in methods for performing actions on the client data are listed, in which the hooks correspond to at least a portion of the client data. The client data is passed to the corresponding methods using the hooks, and wherein a web page is not returned to a client in response to the passing the client data.
