    摘要: A handle for a utility knife includes a housing made up of two or more portions. In one embodiment, a manually operable member for use in releasing the blade is retained to at least one portion of the housing and does not become separated from the housing when the housing is in an open state. In another embodiment, a catch for engaging the blade extends from a support member that is slidably movable within the housing. In another embodiment, the housing is formed of metal and a nose portion is formed of a metal that is more wear resistant than the rest of the housing, in order to improve the durability of the nose portion. In another embodiment, a bail screw is captured on a first housing portion and threadedly engageable with a second housing portion for (i) releasably securing the first and second housing portions in a fully closed state and, in turn, releasably securing a blade within the blade opening, and (ii) manually positioning at least one of the first and second housing portions in at least one intermediate state between the fully closed state and a fully opened state to, in turn, permit the blade to be manually moved through the blade opening.

    摘要: There is provided a reciprocating saw blade having a tapered tang stem. The tang has a tang portion with at least three outer edges and a stem portion with at least three outer edges. The profiles of the tang portion and particularly the stem portion are such that they facilitate the effective and efficient engagement of the saw blade with any of numerous different keyed or keyless chucks of reciprocating saws. The tang/stem profile also advantageously provides for increased strength for resisting failure and/or fatigue stemming from a cutting force applied to the saw blade during use.

    摘要: An improved saw blade includes groups of saw teeth disposed along the cutting edge of the blade. Each group of teeth includes, in relation to the cutting direction of the blade, an unset leading tooth followed by two pairs of trailing teeth alternately set in opposite lateral directions outwardly of the centerline of the blade. The first pair of trailing teeth are generally of the same height as the leading tooth and the second pair of trailing teeth are shorter and have a substantially wider set than the first pair. The pair of trailing teeth that are shorter and wider set are disposed in consecutively and interposed relation between the first pair of trailing teeth. The set distance of the first pair of trailing teeth is approximately 50% of the set distance of the second pair of trailing teeth.

    摘要: A recip saw blade has a blade body and a cutting edge extending along the blade body and defined by a repeating pattern of two consecutive teeth suitable for abusive cutting applications. The blade defines a relatively coarse tooth pitch. The two consecutive teeth, which may be bi-metal, include a high tooth and a relatively low tooth in comparison to the high tooth. Each high tooth and low tooth include a primary clearance surface defining a relatively shallow primary clearance angle that is about 28° or less, and a secondary clearance surface defining a relatively steep secondary clearance angle in comparison to the primary clearance angle. The primary clearance angle of the high tooth is steeper than the primary clearance angle of the low tooth, such as between about 23° and 28°, and the secondary clearance angle of the high tooth is shallower than the secondary clearance angle of the low tooth.
