    摘要: A reader device for electronic article surveillance (EAS) is disclosed which includes an exciter; a transmitter, the transmitter operatively coupled to the exciter via a first signal gate; a transmitter antenna operatively coupled to the transmitter; a receiver antenna operatively coupled to a receiver front end; and a signal detector, the receiver front end operatively coupled to the signal detector via a second signal gate, wherein the exciter generates a burst of electromagnetic energy in a pulse or a continuous wave at an operating frequency of a radiofrequency identification (RFID) tag within a read range of the EAS reader such that the energy level of the burst generates a residual or ring-down signal from the RFID tag indicating the presence of the RFID tag without activating the RED functions of the tag. The ring-down signal is read by the EAS reader as an EAS function.

    摘要: A thin metallic ferromagnetic alloy ribbon is annealed by continuously transporting it through an oven in order to induce specific magnetic characteristics and in order to remove a production-inherent longitudinal curvature of the ribbon. While the heat-treatment occurs, the ribbon is guided by a channel in a substantially straight annealing fixture. The channel is characterized by slight curvatures along portions of its length, in particular where the ribbon enters into the annealing oven. The curved channel provides an improved thermal contact between the ribbon and the heat reservoir. As a consequence the process can be conducted at particularly high annealing speeds without degrading the desired characteristics.

    摘要: A magnetomechanical EAS marker includes a housing, a magnetostrictive active element in the housing, and a bias magnet mounted on the housing adjacent to the active element. Both the active element and the bias magnet are substantially planar metal strips. The length and/or surface area of the bias magnet is substantially less than the length and/or surface area of the active element. The reduction in the size of the bias magnet relative to the active element enhances reliable deactivation of the marker by increasing the resonant frequency shift obtained by degaussing the bias magnet. The increased reliability of deactivation is obtained without increasing the sensitivity of the marker, when in an active state, to variations in applied bias magnetic field.

    摘要: A method for detecting metal using an electronic article surveillance (“EAS”) system. The EAS system includes a transmitter and a receiver. An EAS interrogation signal is transmitted to establish the interrogation zone. The EAS interrogation signal is used to detect EAS markers and metal objects within the interrogation zone. The EAS signal is received and a metal object present in the interrogation zone is detected during a metal detection cycle. The metal object is detected based upon perturbations in the received EAS interrogation signal. The metal detection cycle is periodically interspersed with at least one EAS detection cycle.

    摘要: A magnetic detacher has a core magnet and a ring magnet. The core magnet has a body with a top and bottom surface, and produces a first magnetic field. The ring magnet defines a cavity. The ring magnet has a body with a top and bottom and produces a second magnetic field. The ring magnet is axially aligned with the core magnet such that the first magnetic field opposes the second magnetic field along the bodies and enhances it within the cavity. The top surface of the core magnet is separated from the bottom surface of the ring magnet by a predetermined distance thereby producing a resultant magnetic field having a first resultant field strength at a specific position greater than a second resultant field strength produced at the same position when the top surface of the core magnet abuts the bottom surface of the ring magnet.
