摘要： A multifunction device including an image recording unit and a scanner unit is provided. The scanner unit includes an image readable plane. The image recording unit includes a first tray, a conveyer path to convey the recording sheet in a first orientation, and a second tray, which is formed along an edge of an opening formed on the front face, and in which the recording sheet having been conveyed in the conveyer path is disposed. The recording sheet in a maximum conveyable size for the conveyer path is disposed to occupy a discharge area in the second tray. A downstream end of the discharge area along a second orientation is in a displaced and downstream position with respect to a downstream end of an image readable area of the image readable plane along the second orientation for a first distance.

摘要： An image reading device includes: an original table having a stationary original reading area and a moving original reading area on its top surface; an image reading unit provided inside the original table and moving the reading line in the direction of the width of the stationary original reading area and to the moving original reading area with the direction of the length of the stationary original reading area as the reading line; an original cover openably and closably provided on the original table so as to cover at least the stationary original reading area; and an ADF having an original conveyance path leading from an original tray by way of the moving original reading area to an original output tray. The image reading device reads originals of sizes larger than the readable stationary original size without any size increase of the device.

The first hinge mechanism includes a first movable member that is pivotally coupled to the cover member and slidably attached to the body. The first movable member is configured to move relative to the body in a predetermined direction. The first hinge mechanism further includes a brake member which generates a brake force that applies resistance against the first movable member when a force is applied to move the first movable member relative to the body in the predetermined direction. The first hinge mechanism is positioned further from a center of gravity of the cover member than the second hinge mechanism.

The image reading unit includes a photoelectric converter facing the rear surface, a case to hold the photoelectric converter, and at least one first rotating member and at least one second rotating member that rotate and receive a pressing force from the rear surface of the document mounting plate as the image reading unit moves. The image reading unit also includes a holder configured to support the case and at least one urging device positioned between the holder and the case. The at least one urging device urges the case toward the rear surface, and exerts an urging force opposite to the pressing force, and balances against the pressing force.

摘要： A scanning unit is configured to slide along a guide shaft that extends in a predetermined direction. The scanning unit includes a carriage configured to slide along the guide shaft, a bearing which is disposed on a carriage and through which the guide shaft passes, and an elastic deformation allowance mechanism which permits elastic deformation of the external shape of the bearing in the predetermined direction at a predetermined time. For example, a contact image sensor unit includes a box equipped with a contact image sensor. The box has a bearing through which a guide shaft is inserted. The bearing has a pair of bosses, bushings that fit therein, and a coil spring that is disposed between the bushings. The bushings are urged by the coil spring, so that the bushings continually protrude outwards. As the contact image sensor unit slides along the guide shaft, the bushings insert in between the bosses when the bushings abut the wall surface of the frame, so that the bearing is deformed elastically. An image reading device may include a scanning unit.
